The "Eddie jumped ship" thing is a pretty big misnomer. Assistants accepting positions elsewhere is nothing new, particularly when they're looking for work as a head coach. Eddie had a head coach position at New Cath, but the pay was only right for him when he was coaching in conjunction with his work as the capital campaign director for New Cath. When diocesan cuts forced New Cath to eliminate the capital campaign director position from their budget, he was only being paid to coach, which in most Catholic high schools - and definitely in New Cath's case, isn't enough to support a family on. As a result, he went looking for another job that he could actually support his family on and found one at Georgetown...and I think we can all agree that that was not Eddie "jumping ship".

 

As for moving from OC at Georgetown to HC at Cov Cath, if the guy's motivation or goal was to be a head coach, then from the looks of things, he was getting back to a job he wanted. Plus...Cov Cath apparently approached him with a better deal than what he was making at Georgetown. He's a NKY native, and he's getting back to where his family is.

Guy sounds like a solid coach. I'd say just do what you have been training to do the past X number of years and go with it. He knows what he's doing or else he wouldn't be there. Give 100% and expect NOTHING less from the players.

I think everyone should know that Eddie is receiving a very warm welcome from CCH. I think he is a great fit and cov cath will be lucky to have him for however long he is there. I grew up with Eddie and I went to cov cath. We are happy that he is now a colonel. His job will be simple. Make the program his own and beat highlands.

Mark Peach did the same a few years ago when he left the head coaching job at Campbellsville for Anderson County. I guess it's quite possible that teaching and getting a coaching stipend in high school is about as good pay wise as coaching lower level college football, and probably has a LOT fewer headaches I would presume.

I'm not sure how Cov Cath went about finding the money to offer Coach Eviston, but my understanding is that they did it all the same. I agree that it's a good hire. I'm definitely excited to see what Eddie brings to Park Hills.

I think many posters on here would be very surprised at how little lower level college coaches make. This is why you see a lot of NAIA and D-3 coaches jump at the chance to take a good high school level job (solid salary and retirement). Everyone sees the massive contracts of head coaches at large D-1 schools and think that is the norm. Many times NAIA and D-3 coaches are even given free housing as an incentive to stay on board.
