Calls Refs Miss

Featured Replies

Big guy makes a move inside and get's knocked around and fumbles the ball...almost every time it's a walk on the Big Guy instead of a foul.

A fumble can never be a travel.

Look again.

The ball bounces back to him off the floor at the 1:04 mark.

At that point into the 1:05 mark he is moving his left foot up. Therefore, the right foot is his pivot foot once he places the left foot down. No more dribbling occurs.

You are looking at the frame where he is showing you the steps. Freeze frame it at 1:06 and at the next one as well. He is not putting both hands on the ball until his left foot hits the ground. I agree with you on the one at 1:04 but he is just showing you how he takes the step in that one. Watch the next two examples and freeze frame them and tell me if you think those two are traveling.

Generally I feel like refs get the call right way more often than they don't.

One I will mention as annoying though:

End of the game and the defensive team is obviously trying to foul. Red won't call the bump/reach until several seconds run off the clock and the defense almost has to commit a flagrant foul to get the other team to the line. The refs who don't have a good "feel" for the game flow are the ones that I find annoying.

Amen

Depends on which play you're looking at. If you are using the walk-through example(the one where he is going in slo-mo) then we agree. The play where it's live right after the walk-through example is not a walk because the pivot foot is the left foot. It's the pivot because he secured the ball as his left foot was hitting the ground. Therefore, the right foot is NOT the pivot and legal to go off of.

The walk-through and the live play are the same.

The ball was secured as the left was still on the ground; therefore, when he picked the left up, the right became the pivot foot.

No they aren't. Watch it again.

Here is an example of an ILLEGAL euro step.

A fumble can never be a travel.

Correct, but I've seen more than a few called that way over time.

Yes, they are.

A fumble can never be a travel.

Yet it get's called all of the time, especially inside.

Here is an example of an ILLEGAL euro step.

Same as the other.

Both should be illegal at the high school level.

Good video of the euro step . Legal.

Agreed. The most missed call I see is the travel that is called that isn't a travel.

Good video of the euro step . Legal.

Still a walk.

Just watched it. Picking up the pivot foot. Watch when the ball is secured.
