Don't know. Already said I don't follow it close enough to offer an objection to these rankings.

 

However, head-to-head is just one factor in the equation. If they beat CCH but then lost a few to lesser teams then I'd put them behind CCH. I'd also rank them on how I think they are playing TODAY. If a team lost two games early but got on a really good run I'm going to weigh the recent performance more than the early performance.

 

This all gets back to my overall point. When you're doing subjective rankings EVERYTHING is a factor. It's like telling the jury "ignore that piece of evidence you just saw." You can't.

 

Even if there is no true way to tell how damaging or helpful that evidence is. The same way you say you can't "ignore that piece of evidence you just saw" should apply to all teams that play out-of-state teams. You can't just pick and choose some out-of-state teams and then just ignore others because they don't fit a specific agenda. Either accept them all or ignore them all. That's how I see it. At least it would be consistent.

 

What about Wilmington? Were they missing players in any games against KY competition? Was it a tournament? They play multiple games in a day? They playing their 5th game in 7 days? How true is a #4 rank in Ohio? What about Taylor County? Were they at full strength when they played Wilmington? Injuries? Tournament? Dead legs? What about LexCath? Injuries? Football players back then? Tournament? Was it before or after Hawaii?

CCH defeats the #4 team in Ohio.

 

Calloway County defeats the #1 team in Illinois.

 

Both teams are 17-3.

 

CCH is #3 in KY. Calloway County is #16 in KY.

I stated correctly that I do not care where a team is ranked. I've said nothing saying that one team should be ranked higher than another.

 

What I did say/ask was how can certain games be ignored. The brain just doesn't function that way when doing non-mathematical evaluations.

I wouldn't say my brain ignores the game. My brain won't penalize a team for losing to an out-of-state team nor will it reward a team for defeating an out-of-state team. Had Taylor County and LexCath defeated Wilmington and CCH lost to Wilmington I would be saying that CCH should still be ranked where they are currently ranked. I'm not going to use the Wilmington game to say they should be ranked higher and had they lost I wouldn't be saying to lower them either.

It's not picking and choosing, it's about using the information you have. Just because you don't have a gauge for how good every out of state team is, doesn't mean you shouldn't use the information you know about some of them.

I think it is possible if you have no point of reference. If you say Lexington Catholic lost to a team I know nothing about except that they're from California, and beat a team I know nothing about but that they're from Maryland, neither of those would impact where I ranked Lexington Catholic.

 

However, if I then found that the team that beat Lex Cath lost to Tates Creek, then I consider dropping Lexington Catholic in my ranking. Or if I now know that a team Lex Cath beat goes on to beat Knott Co Central, then I'm considering moving LexCath up (and dropping Knott Central).

I do think that when doing rankings a system can be developed that aims for consistency and accuracy. It's hard enough following all of the teams in KY let alone trying to find out quality information about a team from out of state.
