Webster just lost to Trigg County...by 7...at home, and has played to this point almost no one. Their "signature" win is against Christian County, and to be honest I'm not sure that's any great signature win. Not saying they are a bad team, just don't see them as a top 20 until they do something. They play Henderson Friday though, so I guess we will see then if they are contender or pretender.

Webster Co. is in...that makes 3 Region 2 schools! Big game for them coming up Friday....could be short lived, or we might see a big jump from them.

 

I think these are pretty accurate in my mind although I probably wouldn't have put Webster Co in after their loss.

Among their wins, Valley, J-town, Shawnee, Thomas Nelson, Butler, Holy Cross, Southern, Seneca (by 4), Fern Creek (by 8) The only quality win was Bryan Station by 4 .. 2 wins and 2 losses against out of state competition. Am I missing something?

Yep, they beat Bryan Station, who beat the crap out of Lincoln by 20. I'd agree that is pretty quality. Lost to Doss by a hair in the first game of the year and to Central who is as hot as anyone when they smoked Trinity

Probably not. BUT, there has to be some teams with better wins against a MUCH better schedule. But, it's the 20th spot...I'm sure an argument could be made for and against several schools.

It seems plausible to me that the rankings could have been done before last night's games. Normally the rankings are released on Mondays if I am not mistaken and it seems to me that there could have been a variety of reasons for the rankings to have been released today. If that's the case I can see why Webster County is still ranked. I doubt they'd still be ranked if Monday's games had been factored into the rankings.

The only question I have is around out-of-state games. I seem to remember PP92 or someone saying they do not factor in. So would CCH loss to Moeller or their win over Wilmington last night factor in?

I don't think any of last night's games were factored into this week's release of the rankings and normally out-of-state games are not factored into the rankings. I'll never be convinced that out-of-state competition should be factored into the equation when compiling the rankings.

 

Seeing that Wilmington has defeated Lexington Catholic and Taylor County helps out the scope some but I still don't feel like out-of-state competition should be a factor when compiling rankings.

I think in SOME instances it could be used...the Wilmington team is an example because they have a record against multiple in state teams and beat two very good teams in LexCath and Taylor County. I think it's safe to say they are a good team and the CCH win over them is a quality win. Where it gets sticky for sure is when someone plays some random team from FL who is supposedly a top 4 team in Class 4 or whatever. No real point of reference in a lot of those matchups.

Assuming these rankings were done before last nights games, they are very good. I think there are at least 5 more teams that could have been considered for the last spot.

I think they might be a bit high at #9, but I think top 15 is very reasonable. Their biggest plus is no bad losses. Only in state losses are both to top 15 teams.

They also have a win over a top 15 team.
