BluegrassPreps.com Boys Rankings (1-27-15)

Not if you've discredited a team for their national rankings.

Let me ask you this? Where would you rank Taylor County?

Somewhere between 5-10.

Somewhere between 5-10.

Seems right to me.

So a top 5 to 10 team in KY lost to Wilmington by 10.

CCH beat Wilmington on the road.

You're telling me your brain just acts like that didn't happen when it comes to ranking CCH?

Note: I could give a flip where any team including CCH is ranked so realize they're just an example to cite.

You factor in all of their KY wins and losses yet you ignore a win over a team that beat a top 5 to 10 KY team? How can your brain actually do that if you're not using some sort of mathematical calculation?

I didn't discredit any rankings until I saw Trinity play in person. At the time Trinity was undefeated against KY competition and 1-2 against out-of-state competition. IMO Trinity was #1 in the state and sitting on a 6-2 record overall. Once I saw them play four games I didn't feel like they were a better team than Henderson County let alone Ballard and Knott County Central who were ranked immediately below Trinity.

At no time did any out of state opponents factor into where I felt like Trinity was ranked in the state of KY. I did continue my lifelong questioning of nationally ranking high school athletics.

Seems right to me.

Where would you rank Boyle County then? They beat CCH with ease. Where would you rank them?

I don't think they should be ranked nationally at all.

why not?

Why not?

If they can't beat Trinity then how in the world are they a nationally ranked team?

whose to say Trinity shouldn't be nationally ranked?

I'll say it if it needs saying.

Whose to say Trinity shouldn't be nationally ranked?

So Ballard, Henderson County and Knott County Central should be nationally ranked also? Right now IMO they are all three playing better basketball than Trinity.

Maybe. It's all subjective.

My brain is factoring that they are a top 5 team in the state but they aren't the best team in the state and they are underperforming based on the expectations placed upon them before the season started. My brain is processing who they lost to and how they lost to them as well as factoring in the four times I watched them play this season. My brain is then wondering how crappy national rankings are if Trinity handily defeated "the #4 team in the nation". My brain says that if Trinity can handily defeat the #4 team in the nation how in the world are they losing to anyone from KY? My brain is then saying that Henderson County and Central must be top 5 in the nation since they both defeated Trinity. Then my brain says that KY high school basketball must be exponentially better than 99% of the nation since Central had to beat Trinity just to get ranked at #13 and Henderson County just got to #2 last week. Then my brain looks at the national rankings and sees that Henderson County and Central aren't nationally ranked and Ballard is at #35. Hmmmmm.......maybe just maybe nobody knows anything about where anyone should be ranked nationally and since nobody knows anything about just how good any of these out of state teams really are then why should I factor in out-of-state competition? Wouldn't Trinity still be #1 in KY since they have the best win out of all teams in the state by handily defeating "the #4 team in the nation?"

That's what my brain is telling me.

I follow your thinking, and I'm cracking up at your delivery... Funny stuff. :lol2:

Don't know. Already said I don't follow it close enough to offer an objection to these rankings.

However, head-to-head is just one factor in the equation. If they beat CCH but then lost a few to lesser teams then I'd put them behind CCH. I'd also rank them on how I think they are playing TODAY. If a team lost two games early but got on a really good run I'm going to weigh the recent performance more than the early performance.

This all gets back to my overall point. When you're doing subjective rankings EVERYTHING is a factor. It's like telling the jury "ignore that piece of evidence you just saw." You can't.

Off the top of my head without doing research these are all teams worthy of the #20 spot IMO:

Wayne County

Boyle County

Dunbar

Lafayette

Perry County Central

Clay County

Warren Central

Monroe County

Holmes

Owen County

Oldham County

Bullitt East

Collins

I think an argument can be made for each one of those teams.

Really,,,It would take a diehard fan for some of these teams......
