Winningest Teams in Kentucky since 2000!

I would be concerned if I was a rock. St.X has never had a football stadium in school history and yet year in and year out always a top program. Now the Tiger's will have the best stadium in the state and among best all around sports facilities in the country. Now you tell me what effect this is going to have on the football program no matter who is coaching.Do you think St.X will have a problem finding a new coach when Glaser retires in a few years? No worries here!

You still don't get it... what makes our two schools special cannot be found in anything tangible. You can get into a flame war about who has the best, most, fastest, biggest, etc, but it won’t matter between the lines.

You X guys crack me up. For years the mantra was "historic Manual Stadium" is second to none in tradition... The X men had no need or desire to move, but n-o-w... its all about your new stadium. Tell me, what exactly will Glaser Field have that Marshall doesn't? I didn't notice any X men willing to say that Marshall Stadium afforded Trinity any advantage, why the change of story? No concerns here, Trinity more than holds their own against the Tigers.

I do agree with certain X men that both schools have outstanding programs, that is what makes the rivalry great.

LSURock and I agree on this point! I like Manual Stadium and will miss it greatly. Saw my first high school game there in October, 1959. Also, I saw my first St. X-Trinity game there in 1964. (Yes, for you younger guys the game has not always been at Papa Johns).

I am not aware of anything X's stadium will have that Trinity's stadium does not have. I feel certain there will be some differences, but the stadium does not make the program. I attended the first game played at Trinity's new stadium, and I really felt the stadium was first-class. X has a storied program, and has never had its own stadium. T has a storied program, and has had its own stadium for as long as I can remember.

Surely fans of both schools can agree with LSURock's final paragraph.

Back to the thread: Are the accomplishments of the other "winningest" schools listed above more outstanding than the accomplishments of X and T because of the enrollment disparity these two enjoy over all other schools? Any thoughts?

I also must commend coach Smith. He built a fine program out of nothing as I understand. It will be interesting to see how Boyle does in the post-Smith era. It looks like he laid a good foundation.

Chuck Smith did, arguably, the finest selling and coaching job during his tenure at Boyle County HS, in the history of Kentucky high school football.

I saw them play pre-Chuck Smith and to see that is to agree with my previous statement.

1.Boyle County 81-7 92%

2. Trinity 74-11 87.05%

3. Lexington Catholic 67-10 87.01%

4. St. X 70-11 86%

5. Danville 73-14 83.9%

6. Rockcastle County 68-14 82.9%

6. Male 68-14 82.9%

8. Newport Catholic 68-15 81.9%

9. Beechwood 67-15 81.7%

10.Bowling Green 60-15 80%

11.Louisville Holy Cross 59-15 79.7%

12.Russell 62-17 78.5%

13.Belfry 63-19 76.8%

14.Trigg County 56-17 76.7%

15.Mayfield 65-20 76.5%

16.Hopkinsville 62-20 75.6%

17.Bullitt East 55-18 75.34%

18.Glasgow 58-19 75.32%

18.Bardstown 58-19 75.32%

20.Bell County 55-19 74.3%

I compiled the above list to include the top 20 winningest high school programs in the state of Kentucky since 2000. I feel that this breakdown illustrates just how many of the teams in Kentucky stay dominant over a long period of time, when you compare this to the other list that inlcudes the top 20 teams since 1990. This includes the past 6 years.

Do you have any comments by looking at the teams mentioned in this ELITE list? Who surprises you or who are you disappointed with, maybe you thought some team would be higher, lower, etc?

I have also included a breakdown by class that these teams represent. There are teams in this list, however, that has switched classification more than once but I am including their recent classification.

1A: 6 teams

2A: 4 teams

3A: 7 teams

4A: 3 teams

I have also included a breakdown of geographic location per school listed above.

NKY: 2 teams

EKY: 4 teams

CKY: 2 teams

WKY: 6 teams

LEX: 1 teams

LOU: 5 teams

Do these numbers in any category show you anything or prove any point? Let us know what you think.

I wonder how many of these teams would also make the list for top 20 playoff records during this same time period?

Anybody know which schools have the top 20 playoff records since 2000?

Like you I am a Chuck Smith fan. Boyle did not have a very good program when he came, in fact it stunk.

That is not to say that Boyle didn't have good football in the past. The Rebels had some good teams in the mid 60's, a few in the early 70's and Ed Rall did a good job as the skipper from '74 to the early 80's. They were never beyond the first round in a playoff game (playoffs then were 3 games) but they had solid clubs that owned wins over traditional programs like Danville, Somerset, Henry Clay, Bardstown and Harrodsburg.

Still those clubs were no where near the program that Smith built in Rebel Land. I hope the talent and tradition continues but the proof will be in performance in the years ahead.

I wonder how many of these teams would also make the list for top 20 playoff records during this same time period?

Do you want a HIGH winning % or do you want to win Championships. A team with a HIGH # of games played per season is HIGH on my priority list. Breathitt Co and Highlands are not in the top 20 winning %. However, they have rings which cannot be said for eight of the teams with better winning percentages.

Mayfield is 15 on the winning % list but tied for 3rd with Trinity in average games per season.

What and they are not private schools? How is it possible?

It's in the water.

No it is in the industry...there are many job opportunities in the area, and it makes it attractive to young families that seek opportunity but don't want to live in Lexington or Louisville. The area is growing and already high talent pools are replenished by fresh numbers.

Good point but not all the way. In Danville's case in particular many of the "stars" you have seen in the last 5 years are from families that have played at and for Danville for 30 or more years. These families were here long before the Industrial Park grew or the four lane highways were paved.

Still that's a good theory for the most part and I think valid on some fronts for Boyle in particular. Though I might add the Tamme's are second generation Rebels. :thumb:
