January 20, 201511 yr What's this all about? Why make the change if it's "absolutely no big deal"? Harrell Removed As UofL Captain Louisville coach Rick Pitino on Tuesday confirmed a report that All-American forward Montrezl Harrell is no longer a U of L team captain, but he also sought to play down the significance of the change. "Absolutely no big deal," he said in a message to The Courier-Journal. "Totally nothing. He is still the leader of our team."
January 20, 201511 yr Is he trying to use it as motivation? I know in UL's 3 losses he's average about 9 ppg and frankly, not looked that skilled on the offensive end. That's not good enough for your star player. Against Duke when they cut it to 10, Harrell missed out on 2-3 possessions in a row. In fairness, the skill around him on offense has not helped matters.
January 20, 201511 yr I'll throw my guess in the mix since that's all any of us can do. Maybe it was a disciplinary move?
January 20, 201511 yr You don't take someone's "C" away and it be nothing. This is my thought as well.
January 20, 201511 yr Dumb question. With Pitino, is being the team captain more of an honorary title or is the captain some what of a coach "on the floor". I know different coaches have different roles for team captain but wasn't sure what Pitino's was.
January 20, 201511 yr I think it's a communication issue. since team captains are the ones who communicate with referees from time to time (and teammates), there is probably a better communicator that is getting minutes too. Don't always have to assume the worst...
January 20, 201511 yr This falls in line with Pitino telling Edgar Sosa he needed to consider transferring.
