All anyone needs to know is the better TEAM won. Refs, big gym, mind games = excuses.

 

No excuse, just how this game went. NewCath never adjusted to the physicality that CovCath presented. CovCath's kids take it to the limit to see what they can get away with. If you are able to use your hands and body to direct ball handlers and slap at wrists then it affects an offense. NewCath never did the same on the other end. Adjusting to how a game is called is an important part of the game as well. Winning teams do that, and I liked how CovCath approached it. When they meet again another region refs and that could change how much they can use thir hands.

 

As for mind games, CovCath has mastered the black arts. Flopping, 4 coaches approaching officials at time outs, coming underneath shooters in the post. I kind of like, kind of find it annoying.

NCC looked out of shape! they were laboring to get up and down the floor by the middle of the second quarter

A few thoughts on this issue.

 

1. Passing to the post is a skill that a lot of kids simply do not have.

2. Best passer is Pangallo. He was having trouble getting the ball thus limiting passes to the post.

3. CCH didn't make it easy. Romes had a few steals/deflections when they try to go inside.

4. CCH crashed hard when the ball went to the post.

5. Drew got up 17 shot attempts. Many were inside. All were challenged.

6. He can't post hard the entire game. He has to pick and choose.

 

Sidenote: Very skilled player. You do not want the ball in his hands. His baseline move was really impressive.

I knew this was sort of true when I posted it last night. Now after reading about missed calls, bad strategy, mind games, and physical play I KNOW it's true. It seems like a thread we see each September.

RE: NCC needs to be more physical and play the mind games like CCH did.

 

Not happening. It's not in them. It's not their way of playing.

 

Not a criticism at all but it's not going to work.

CCH had a very short bench last night. They didn't overwhelm NCC with depth.

 

CCH prides itself on balls to wall D and being in shape. Sometimes it matters.

I'm a big fan of Coach Jimmy Pangallo. He does such a nice job with the boys when they're pulled from the game. I'd imagine the boys love playing for him.

Use of bigs has always been a problem on the hill

NewCath is the past 15 years has had endless amount of talent but always seem to have trouble on big games. What will get the Breds over this hump?? They never seem to take advantage of their size. Im sure I was not the only one shaking my head in the stands last night. Its like same story different year.

I know most of the players on both teams and this is true. Jimmy is the "players coach" of NCC and Joe Frederick is the "players coach" on CCH. Both guys are huge assets to their programs.

 

Since I started on assistants, one big advantage CCH has is that Bacigalupo PLAYED for Ronnie Dawn. I'm sure Coach Dawn does not run the same sets and schemes he ran with Tony, but Tony knows Dawn's style as well as anyone. Helps CCH to adjust to NCC's adjustments (if that makes sense).
