If I am not allowed to pick him, how about Larry Kehre, Mount Union College. The winningest football coach in college football history with a winning percentage of .927. Coach Larry Kehres has 10 NCAA Division III Championships and the two longest winning streaks in NCAA football history with 54 wins and then after one lost he has a 55 game winning streak.

I picked Saban. I think those are the top two coaches in the game currently.

I'd take either one and be just fine. I don't get the fascination with "best" this and "best" that. I'll take really good on my team any day. Saban and Urban are both ridiculously good at what they do.

Very nice stat line. I don't think you can go wrong with either but I think Meyer is better with QBs and that's not going out on a limb obviously.

Tie with Saban and Meyer.

 

IMO, Saban is the best tactician in the game. His defenses are so sound, and his schemes are used everywhere on nearly every level.

 

Meyer is the best motivator in the game, at any level, IMO. His players literally go to battle for him every time out. Meyer could go to UK and win 9 or 10 games next year. He's that good.

 

I'll say this, I think Meyer can do more with less. Both are always surrounded by talent at every position, but I'll take Urban's Utah teams over Saban's MSU teams. Meyer's teams also lay less eggs than Saban's.

 

What's really amazing about these two is the success they have despite the coaching turnover on their staffs. They get raided every other year and continue to have success.

 

After that there a bunch of guys in that next level IMO:

-Les Miles: Seems crazy, but he wins big

-Jimbo Fisher: Can't stand the guy, but he's been a big time coach at FSU

-Gary Patterson: Finally found his footing in the Big 12 and is poised to keep winning big

-Art Briles: Dude wins big at Baylor....He has to be included

 

Under the radar excellent coaches:

-Paul Johnson at Georgia Tech gets the most out of what he has

-Mark Helfrich: Juries still out, but I like what he's done at Oregon. Could possibly be just coasting off what Chip built though

-Charlie Strong: Excellent coach, glad he left Louisville

-Chris Petersen: People have forgot about him but he's a big game coach

He should be better with QBs considering he has an offensive background and Saban has a defensive.
