January 6, 201511 yr You'll never know who was on and who wasn't. Safe to say the majority of guys were on something. Take your lumps, MLB, for not giving a :poop: until records started to get broken. They are either HOF worthy or they aren't. You can't judge SOME of them based on the era and not others.
January 6, 201511 yr Stopped using them and broke down? I'd buy it, but his career and body broke down almost similarly to his father's career and body. I'm giong to bet on genetics
January 6, 201511 yr Bagwell and Raines each got 55% of the votes. In other news, Aaron Boone got 2 votes. Aaron Boone? Seriously?
January 6, 201511 yr I'd buy it, but his career and body broke down almost similarly to his father's career and body. I'm giong to bet on genetics My own theory was that the game came so natural to Junior that he never had to work as hard as some of the other players. When he aged, his body let him down because he never had to train as hard to be a successful ballplayer. But, his body did break down, which would be consistent with discontinuing PED's. He never looked like he was using PED's though. You could identify manyof the PED users from that era just by looking at them (i.e. McGwire, Bonds, etc.)

Years of covering the turf in Seattle wore him down and then freak injuries in Cincy finished the job. Look at all the greats from the 30's, 40's, and 50's. As soon as they hit 31/32 it was downhill fast.

But They're Baseball Writers!!!
January 6, 201511 yr Aaron Boone? Seriously? Exactly what I was thinking. The 2 people that voted for him must have got some type of kickback?
January 6, 201511 yr Author Exactly what I was thinking. The 2 people that voted for him must have got some type of kickback? One was Hal McCoy. He voted for him because when he was losing his eye-sight and was close to quitting, it was Aaron Boone who contacted him and convinced him he needed to keep fighting and to not let "it" beat him.
January 6, 201511 yr One was Hal McCoy. He voted for him because when he was losing his eye-sight and was close to quitting, it was Aaron Boone who contacted him and convinced him he needed to keep fighting and to not let "it" beat him. I remember that. Cool story, but probably doesn't warrant the HOF. Certainly doesn't warrant TWO votes.
January 6, 201511 yr This was Don Mattingly's last year of eligibility, correct? Yes. If he makes it now it will be up to the Veteran's Committee.
January 6, 201511 yr Question: Is Creatine considered to be a PED? If so, when did it become one? Where's the line? Creatine? Anabolic Steroids? HGH? I haven't really paid attention to it all.
January 7, 201511 yr As a player, so do Bonds and Clemens. Let's just call it what it is. It's bias because Rose played in Cincinnati, and Clemens and Bonds didn't. But Rose didn't enhance his performance with drugs, he just bet on games.
