New Campbell Co. Sheriff Asks Staff to Apply For Their Jobs

So? Did he say he wasn't going to?

Probably not. But if my campaign includes shaking up the existing scene I think I'd mention it.

Actually, it's probably a good idea because I'm sure Kidwell hired his entire family!

Again, who said he's going to shake anything up? There may be a couple employees who aren't brought back, but I'd wager a large amount the vast majority will stay employed as long as they apply.

My guess the whole story is much ado about nothing.

I think that everyone should be ready for a shake up at any time. No resting on your laurels. Can't ever let up the gas.

In this particular race I would agree…but Jantzen ran on nice guy terms and I think that carries through with this particular management style. Probably always a few under performers. I don't wish anyone to lose their livelihood but if it takes care of the one who drives like a qualifier through Wilder, well...

Hey now, that guy is my drafting partner! How else do you think I get from Atown to Cincinnati in under 30 minutes!

This happens in the private sector all the time. Do your job, have value, and you won't have to worry.

Given the opportunity of having a staff already in place I think I would observe their work before making a call to terminate. If he has everyone interview for their job, he is making the decision based upon a half hour of face time Which is always a risk.

It is not like there is a huge issue in the office that needs to be addressed at once.

The new sheriff already knows who's staying and who's leaving to make room for his buddies. That's how the good-ol'-boy system works. Anyone who thinks who-stays-and-who-leaves will be based solely on merit is living in fantasyland.

I am guessing there are quite a few current employees sweating it out here this week.

Buddies have to either already be certified officers or go to the academy for 6 months.

….and vice versa at times. Would you agree ?

I am not sure what you are asking and it really doesn't matter. The point here is young men and women can be just a couple of years from retirement and this kind of practice could permanently destroy what they have worked for over the last 15 to 20 years.

In other words, start your work history and life over because you supported the losing Sheriff in the election.

Politics and Law Enforcement mixing are nasty in many ways.

Not really like this in the private sector. How often is a new manager in the private sector hired and every employee has to reapply for their job?

It doesn't really even happen to many other county government jobs outside of the Sheriff's Office.

I know a guy a couple of years out from retirement that is looking for a new job now.
