That was a great district from top to bottom. Didn't Conner beat SK twice that year? Boone had some excellent bigs also (Moeves at about 6'6" and Coffman at about 6'7").

Well done sir. I remember Shields telling Sullivan to "shoot til you get hot and then keep shooting" Vories was the straw that stirred the drink for that team for sure. Everyone on that team had a role, understood it and mastered it.

 

Muntis was the big man in the middle, Vories was a very adept ballhandler, scorer and wow could he shoot free throws, Sullivan could stroke it from anywhere on the floor, Fischer was an animal inside and complemented Muntis very well and then you had the Malone boys who did all of the quote unquote dirty work (defended, rebounded, scored when needed) They certainly put basketball back on the map at HHS and there were many successful years that followed.

Either 90 or 91 season Newport vs NCC. John Brannen an Stretch Greene (Keith) went for if im not mistaken 40 plus for Brannen an 30 plus for Greene in the district championship. Game went 2ots with the Breds winning.

Whenever I think of Scotty Benton, I always think of David Dinn from Boone County. They were both from the same era. There was a pretty good hoopster on this side of the Licking during that same time frame named Scott Draud.

 

Both Benton and Dinn went on to have tremendous careers at Wright State.

You mean he went to school on that side of the river.....:clap:

I have attended a lot of sporting events in my life, this game ranks towards the top for excitement.

Game that no one deserved to lose.

I was in love with that Newport team the whole year, and the year before that as well because I thought that they were showing a lot of potential the same year the Dawgs won the Sweet 16. Of course not enough yet in the 2008/2009 season, and I was proud to see Holmes finally prevail after numerous years of trying.

 

I was pulling for Newport the whole 2009/2010 season, and in that final game, but I, and no one else could've ever predicted how that game was to turn out.

 

Complete shocker.

 

It was so satisfying.

 

They were a great team, but adding Demarko Foster to the bunch that season was key.
