Go ahead and convince yourself that 1 - 5 LLoyd is "not bad at all" if that's what it takes for you to continue thinking that Holmes belongs in the upper echelon of the Ninth Region.

Love my 'dogs, but man they have to get better. Don't see them as a top 20 in the state. Watching the NCC game tonight, I cringed what they will do to the 'dogs. 20 pts is not out of the possibility.

Holmes is the third best team in the district right now and at this stage they really shouldn't be in the region discussion, but it is only mid-December.

Two things that they are struggling with right now is half court defense and perimeter shooting. That is not a good combination.

Teams are focusing on Bolden and forcing him to pass the ball to teammates and at this point they are not making shots from the perimeter with any sort of consistency and not getting many second chance points.

Lloyd is average at best and there point guard is pretty good, but very average elsewhere.

Holmes has to get way better in transition defense and in the half court. They are letting way too many drives to the basket.

The Bulldogs 1-2-2 got them back into the game forcing Lloyd into turnovers and turning them into points.

I liked the play of Commodore off the bench for Holmes, he does a really good job of distributing the basketball.

Holmes has plenty of time to get things corrected.

In a sense that is to be expected, especially when you lose the size they lost with Hill and Chames which converted missed shots into points and were there to protect the basket.

I agree with this. I believe they will have to play Commodore more as the season goes on. He's only a freshman, but needs to learn in the fire. They have really no presence inside and don't shoot well, either. Their trapping 1-2-2 is effective against less talent. It will no have effect the best teams at all.

 

McClendon and Mullins are nice players and can have games where they pick up the slack like McClendon did tonight, but they are just not consistent. They play hard, though.

While I wasn't there, I've been trying to tell people all summer and early on how good McClendon and Mullins are together. Mullins was an unknown to most coming in to the season because he didnt play much last year due to a foot injury. Holmes will have a realy good backcourt again next year led by those two and sophomore to be Commodore.

 

Mullins and McClendon are both top 10 players next year.

Holmes trailed 19-2 at one point in the 1st qtr. ..outscored Lloyd 63-36 from that point.

 

Bolden played just 16 minutes...finished with 9 pts. So much for this being a one man show.

Serious answer, no. He can coach, no doubt. I know there were some unhappy with him at CCH, but he had winning teams.

He is outstanding as you saw the other night. He is very unselfish, though. More than I would want him to be.

Let's just be real here. Two years ago they had Palmer, Englemon and Colston. You could not leave Plamer and Colston alone, they would kill you from the 3 and Palmer was an outstanding PG. Last year Chames and Hill cleaned up missed shots and were very good defensively down low. Beetle has no one near them in skills this year. They have some nice players but not at the level they have had.

No, you can't do that in mid stream. They had the same problem late last year under a different coach just beating average teams , Remember the regional final vs Newport,,different players and coach,,did not come ready to play....seems to run in the program..
