What To Expect Next Year in the New 3A?

Featured Replies

That's the whole point of the initial statement. Whether it is Boyle County, LexCath, Central or Bardstown......two of these schools will not make past the 2nd round of the playoffs for the next four years. All four schools are high quality programs.

Garrard County too

Garrard County may very well have one of the Top 10 teams in 3A next year but may face the following playoff path for their championship dreams:

@ Bardstown

@ LexCath/Boyle

@ Central

@ Tilghman

vs. Belfry

That literally may equate to defeating the top 5 of 6 teams in the Class.

Hmmmm.....no one is mentioning Garrard County? I think they had a quality team this year and I think they have a good amount of talent returning. Can someone correct me if I am wrong? Shouldn't Garrard County have a pretty good team next season and that make District 4 a district of hell?

Gerrard will probably be playing for 3rd in that district most years. With the exceptional year.

Pound for pound 3A might be the most interesting toughest class next year!!! Thoughts?

Garrard will have some losses on the interior lines but they also have some depth on the lines. Last year they were able to have players platoon almost entirely except in specific situations, so some returning kids have some experience. On defense they also lose a valuable linebacker and on offense a tight end/fullback.

They return nearly all of their skill players, including two junior-to-be running backs that both ran for over 1,000 yards as sophomores. They also return an explosive wide receiver/running back/kick returner that missed much of this season due to injury.

Just my opinion, but NAH I'm not sold. With the exception of the traditional 3A powers ( Bell Co. Lou Central, Corbin and Belfry being favor ) Boyle Co and Lex Catholic will be a tough out.

Actually there is no way around it.

Every year two of those 4 teams (Boyle, LexCath, Central, or Etown) are guaranteed to be eliminated prior to the Regional Finals.

Yes, All four teams, Central, Boyle County, Bardstown and LexCath will be tough outs and no matter how you slice it two of these schools will not make it past the second round of the playoffs.

Corbin lost 24 seniors, which includes the following starters on offense, QB, both RB's, WR & 2 OL. The defense will have to replace 4 DB's and 2 LB's. If they 2 platoon like this year, that will be 12 starters they will have to come up with. I have heard that he wants to continue starting 22 different kids, which I think is a good idea for several reasons, but they make take some lumps early in the year until some of those kids get some experience.

I can't remember the last time Boyle Co and/ or Lex Catholic not making it past the 2nd round. These program year in and year out wins state champs/ regional champs and making it to state semi's.. Including Lou Central.

2013.

But a definite anomaly.

LexCath has to replace their QB (Ryan) and Center (Baily) battery on offense. Air-raid may be the Jones ground attack in 2015. 3 starting LBs all graduate. But there were sold LBs playing at different times.

Concerned - a bit. Worried - no.

Clearly, the Boyle/LexCath round 3 rematch is no sure thing in 3A.

True. Thanks for clarifying that. BC lost to Mercer Co 2nd round.

So Bluegrasscard out of the 17 seniors Lexington Catholic graduates how many of them played this year.

I might be able to answer that Jack. On offense QB Ryan, C Bailey, LT Castlen, WR Hatton and Oneil.. On defense LB Boling and Mitchell, SS Couch and CB Griggs. Big shoe to fill with Ryan and Boling being gone, but as you can see several starters and experience return.

So the other 8 saw no playing time?
