Trinity 47 Dixie Heights 14 (Class 6A State Championship)

Congratulations to Trinity on winning #23 for their program!

The Shamrocks are an outstanding program and they played a phenomenal game yesterday. Offensively, they were in sync all night long. They found a way to continue drives in tough situations (3rd and 13s, etc.) and scored on every possession until the 4th quarter when they were playing their reserves. #19 really impressed me with his vision and strength. It seemed like he would gain quite a few yards after contact more often than not. Young did a great job leading the offense.

Defensively, Trinity did a terrific job of adjusting to the read option very quickly. After the first drive I thought Dixie may be able to move the ball but that quickly changed on the second and subsequent drives. #52 looked like a man among boys (and so did many other Trinity defenders). A huge tip of the cap to the coaching staff for their adjustments and game planning.

As for Dixie, I want to thank the team, and specifically the seniors, for creating a memorable season. You guys proved a lot of people wrong this year and have nothing to hang your heads about. The game last night didn't go the way you hoped but you made this Colonels fan and many others extremely proud. To reel off 13 straight wins and finish 13-2 as state runner ups is an outstanding achievement. You have set the bar for future teams.

Seniors, best of luck in whatever you choose to do. You will be missed.

To the underclassmen, you now have had a taste of success and the work to return to that level begins now. Remember all the things you have learned from the departing seniors and build on it.

And a huge thank you and congratulations to Coach Broasart and his staff. The way the program has turned around in the past few years is on your shoulders. You have down a terrific job of creating something special.

Thank you also to the Highlands players and staff for the well wishes prior to the game. It was truly special to see a team that just completed an outstanding comeback to win a state title walk off the field and wish another NKY good luck in their upcoming game.

Congratulations again to the Rocks!

They've lost five games we've lost one at the beginning of the year. Their used to losing more.

I had to bring this one over from the prediction thread. Someone certainly certainly seemed to get the hang of it rather quickly.:ylsuper:

And I now officially apologize to the very classy Dixie fan that have posted very well thought out comments in this thread.

Ethan Shulte?

Ethan Harrison. #26

Why didn't Dixie play ANY reserves once Trinity made wholesale personel changes? A 94-yard TD pass versus Trinity second team. That's going to bring a scholly offer to Moore? Garbage time rushing yards versus Trinity second, third and fourth string? Onside kick with running clock? Really? 62 players and 2/3rds didn't play? Enjoy 5A.

I'm sure it had to do with allowing the seniors who turned the program around a chance to finish the game. But if you feel the need to complain after winning a state title, I feel sorry for you.

I'm a bit new to the sport, and thus curious as to this discussion. Is there an established etiquette (or unwritten rule) to when the team that started a running clock puts in their second string and what the other teams response should be?

Or is it more of a 'do what you want' situation for both teams?

I would say if a coach pulls his starters then he knows the victory is secure so it shouldn't matter what the other coach decides to do, some have a different opinion but that's the way I've always viewed it. Plus, our younger kids got to see some top flight competition so that experience will only help us. I'm actually glad DH left their starters in.

Dixie losses 9 starters on offense and 7 on defense. Next year might be a down year.

Your team just won a state championship and youre going to complain about that? Is it really that big of a deal to you that Dixie scored a late touchdown with their starters still in? They made the state championship and after a rough game, they got to have one more positive moment to end their season and some of the players careers. Just let it go.

Congrats to Trinity on another championship and congrats to Dixie on a great season and a state runner up finish. That is a great accomplishment for both schools.

I have the right to ask a questions regarding the Dixie game philosophy. If the Dixie Heights players and parents are perfectly content to have only the starters appear in the state final, then so be it. Your coach is quoted in the Cincinnati paper and seemed to brag on the state final record TD completion and the positive rushing yardage gained versus Trinity in the final moments.....

Classy post, well said.

Its a shame that Dixie leaving their seniors in for the last time together at the end of a 40-point blowout ruined the Trinity state title.

Its kind of like a "running up the score" complaint in reverse?

Let it go. He was simply asking a question. Don't think he meant anything by it. During the pre -game buildup there was a lot worse posed on here by a few DH fans.

We forgive them - for they know not what they say.

Does anyone have stats for Damon Lowe?

Anyone?

Anyone?

The stats I see are:

#52 Damon Lowe: 5.0 TKL, 4.0 Solo, 2 ATKL, 3.0 TFL

Disclaimer: I took these from the Dixie Game Center so they may not be 100% accurate but if they aren't, I'd imagine they are very close.

Dixie had no answer when Trinity started blitzing him from the end of line, killed a bunch of plays in the backfield
