Had my immediate family on Saturday night to kick off the Christmas season. Gave everyone in my family a note that told them how much I cared and loved them and how our family, with all it's quirks and disagreements, is still our family, and the only one we get. Felt very good about telling them all how I feel about them.

Much to my surprise, it only took 20 minutes more than usual to get back to NKY. However, I have a renewed hatred for people who drive on the expressway with their high-beams on. It was hazy-bordering-on-foggy the whole way back, and I'll bet you there were upwards of two dozen cars I had either driving in the opposite or same direction as I was that were cruising with their brights on. Talk about blinding...

The choir at St. Martin of Tours in Louisville was ON ITS GAME Sunday. It's the Sunday Within the Octave of Christmas in the Roman calendar so it's still Christmas music through the whole thing.

 

They did Thomas Luis de Victoria's "O Magnum Mysterium" just after the homily. I really wish I had a recording of how it sounded in the church. I'm going to include a video featuring an insanely talented group, The Sixteen, but I was blown away by how great they sounded.

 

The song is traditionally reserved for the final week of Advent and the Octave of Christmas:

 

"O great mystery,

and wonderful sacrament,

that animals should see the new-born Lord,

lying in a manger!

Blessed is the Virgin whose womb

was worthy to bear

Christ the Lord.

Alleluia!"

 

 

Then they performed one of my favorites during communion: Lo, How A Rose E'er Blooming by Michael Praetorius.

 

They closed the mass during the procession with Joy to the World.

 

Every time I don't go to St. Martin for a while and then go back, I can never remember why I ever went anywhere else.
