December 1, 201411 yr Not stupid on Dalton's part...any athlete wants to compete. It is stupid on the part of Marvin and Hue though. If our back up QB isn't good enough to beat Tampa, why is he our back up? agreed I wasnt calling Andy stupid, everyone wants to play. I also g with you am calling Marvi. Stupid especially after his 3rd int. If Campbell isn't good enough to play then why is he on the roster?
December 1, 201411 yr agreed If Campbell isn't good enough to play then why is he on the roster? Exactly, surely a healthy Campbell would play better than a sick Andy. He even said after the game it was the sickest he ever felt while playing football. What? So Marvin let's Andy decide if he's gonna play! That's just crazy to me.
December 1, 201411 yr You all really serious? There is many things to complain about. However what coach has decided not to play his qb before because he is sick? As poorly as Dalton played in that first half, I am not sure if there is one head coach in the NFL who would have pulled his starter to put in Jason Campbell. Campbell has taken a snap in a game since pre season. Dalton sucked that first half, but he showed in the second half why it was the right decision to play him. He was good in the second half and honestly if it wasn't for drops on good throws then the game probably doesn't come down to a dramatic ending. The backup qb is always the most popular guy in town. However people also easily forget why that person is a backup. I don't see any coach in the nfl who would have went with Campbell because the starting qb was sick.
December 1, 201411 yr Because there are 32 NFL teams and only about 10-12 competent QBs in the league. It's amazing the level of skill needed to be a QB in the league. Lots of elite college QBs that are absolute disasters at the next level.

Dalton is clearly a better QB than Campbell... But when you are very sick (throwing up 20 times before the game) that's almost the same as being injured. And even if he wasn't sick, after 3 picks he should have been benched. It worked out fine when Ken Anderson was benched for Turk Shonert for playing poorly. Anderson went on to an MVP season and the Bengals made it to the Super Bowl. Dalton also should have been benched halfway through the Cleveland game. Not saying he should lose his job to Campbell... No way! But some days, you just don't have it. Since when has it become the law that a starting QB only comes out when they are seriously injured? Just like the idiots in Houston... If Mallett was really hurting...and he clearly was, he should have been benched. They prob could have beaten the Bengals that day with Fitzpatrick.
December 1, 201411 yr It's amazing the level of skill needed to be a QB in the league. Lots of elite college QBs that are absolute disasters at the next level. Could be: > Going against elite DB's every game > Having a different game plan and scheme every week > Playing no gimme's > Usually can't make a living running the ball etc.

Cleveland pulled Hoyer today who had less int's than Dalton.
December 1, 201411 yr You are wrong. Cleveland pulled Hoyer today who had less int's than Dalton. Agree Hellbird... As I said in response to the same post from Futurecoach... Since when is it the law that a starting QB can only be benched when they are seriously injured? I think being seriously ill or just plain sucking is a good enough reason to sit out.
December 1, 201411 yr You are wrong. Cleveland pulled Hoyer today who had less int's than Dalton. Most of the time coaches stick with their starter. The difference in this scenario, the Browns were down 20-3 with 12 mins to go in game and they put their future starter in, not a has been career back up now.

The point is FC stated there isn't a coach in the NFL that would pull their starter for Campbell when I'm fact Campbell come in before and coaches pull starters who are playing horrible in games all the time. I guess FC never heard of Rex Ryan for starters.
December 1, 201411 yr I didn't see much of the game. Did they show Mike Evans planting TNew? Yes they did lol. Newman didn't have a very good game. He gave up in a couple plays that we were fortunate the receiver he was covering didn't come down with the catch. He also dropped a sure int that would of iced the game on the last drive for the Bucs. I think he got some sense knocked out of him in that play lol
December 1, 201411 yr You are wrong. Cleveland pulled Hoyer today who had less int's than Dalton. Cleveland pulled him for a guy they drafted in the first round and split the first team reps with in training camp and pre season. They put in a guy who they want to end up as the starter. So if the Bengals had a guy on their bench who is very talented and who they want to be their franchise qb then yes. However as I said there is probably no coach in the league who would have started Campbell over Dalton just because he was sick. Shoot and they showed they made the right decision keeping him in too because he played good in the second half. Wehave no clue how it would have went with Campbell. There is plenty to complain about with Marvin. His decision to play and keep Dalton in today is not one of those things.

I guess FC never heard of Rex Ryan for starters. You keep naming guys who had been pulled who Dont even have a firm grip on the starting job to begin with. With the Jets there was qb competitions for guys to even be the starter. So its not like those teams had established starters who they were pulling in a close game. So once again there probably isnt a coach in the league who would have pulled him today to put in Campbell.
