Matney is a big part of Johnson Central; however, the combination of Matney and the Johnson Central players is what has made Johnson Central the more successful team in the East.

They have not played any of them...but considering Bell has been in the same class as Belfry the past 4 years and haven't came close to Belfry's success you can take that for what is worth. What is Johnson Central's record playing up or against the best teams in their classification? How many times has Johnson Central played a ranked 5A or 6A team in that time frame?

Belfry has never beat Central so they are in the same boat. The only thing that I am saying is that Belfry has had an easy path to the semis they have only had to beat one good team usually. Their district is not very good. The opposite district is worse. Belfry has a great program and coach.

Can't compare scores. You should know that. A loss is a loss. What I am saying is that Bell and Belfry have never beat Central. They will get their chance this year. Bell has had to play them in their Region would love to see Belfry go to a Central and play them in a playoff game. Belfry has had an easy road for years. That is what I am saying not comparing scores. When both teams are playing on a neutral field it makes a difference especially when they both have to travel.

You severely discount the quality of Bourbon County in 2012 and 2013 (3rd best 3A team each year IMO) and Garrard County in 2011. Breathitt in 2011 and 2012 was also a Top 5 overall team in 3A that Belfry beat. People try to discredit those games, particularly the Breathitt games and the 2012 win vs. Bourbon due to margin of victory but when the dust settled we were left a clearer picture in hindsight.

 

This year...as it stands... there is no doubt Belfry has had an easy path but we have all agreed that would be the case even back at the end of summer. Nonetheless Belfry has dominated as they should. Pikeville and Bowling Green would each give testaments that there is no such thing as an automatic win come November.

 

Just look at last year:

Belfry's toughest game before the Finals was against Bourbon

Wayne County's was the Regional Finals against Central

 

Wayne may have played and defeated teams with more impressive names and had a more difficult opposite district, but when it all played out Belfry hoisted the hardware. It doen't matter how the playoffs play out around you as long as you are the team who is standing at the end.

 

Who exactly has Bell County defeated in the 3A playoffs in their 4 years? I am not sure they have defeated a single team who finished the year in the 3A Top 10.

 

Belfry in that same span has wins over Bourbon X2, Breathitt X2, and Wayne County. In addition you throw in wins over Garrard County and Russell as well. It is easy to say they are in the same boat because they neither one could defeat the same team, but you have to value the fact Belfry has displayed they can beat the Top 3A teams in that same time frame whereas Bell has been unable to do so.
