Belfry does not have to run the gauntlet of Highlands and Covington Catholic each year.

I am aware of that. That doesn't mean they aren't a high quality program.

Johnson Central has had the better team over the past 5 years. No question.

Belfry has had the better program.

The fact Belfry is willing to "schedule up" to play JC is part of why Belfry is the better program.

I never said that Belfry isn't high quality. They are an excellent football program. However, they are not the King of the East.

As of now, Johnson Central is the best football program in EKY.

I agree with you except Johnson Central is the better program.

Johnson Central wished they were Belfry...and on a side note Belfry has beat Highlands... just saying

No.

Johnson Central is the better program of the 2.

Okay. That's awesome. What does that have to do with Belfry playing in their 5th straight state championship game and someone paying homage to that? There can be more than one king in EKY. You do know that right?

It must have been before 1998 because it is not on KHSAA Scoreboard.

What year did Belfry defeat Highlands?

Cannot be King of the East if you have a 3-5 record against them in the past 8 seasons.

Nevermind. Found it. Congrats. 24 years ago. Not a playoff game.

Highlands Bluebirds - Bowl Appearances

1990: Pike County Bowl at Pikeville High School (Pikeville, KY) - Highlands 7 Belfry 38 L

This is not a knock on Belfry. But they have had a very easy road to the finals. This has been there easiest so far. I am afraid that it might get them against Central. Good luck Pirates.

I absolutely agree Belfry has had a very easy path this year... but Belfry has also destroyed every team in that path as expected. You can only play the games ahead of you and teams like Bowling Green, Pikeville, and Boyle County (last year) can attest that there is no such thing is a guaranteed win after the 1st Round. Belfry can't dictate that Bourbon would take a big step back this year or that Breathitt's program would fall off the map.

With that said, Belfry knows what it takes to win a Championship and what to expect from a team the caliber of Central when they get there. That's why they schedule a Johnson Central, a Southwestern (who is now still looking like one of the three best 5A teams), travel to Knoxville, and play a Henry Clay. It's not like Russell, Lawrence County, and Pike Central are not quality teams... Belfry's Rounds 2 and 3 are par for the course from what they have seen in previous years.. it's just Russell wasn't an elite team.

If Central beats Belfry it will be because they are the better team, not because Belfry had a weaker than normal Semi-Final game.

ITT a Johnson Central supporter searches for a moral victory

Overall Highlands leads the series with Belfry 3-2 but they are all ancient

Highlands beat Belfry twice in the 60's

1979 Belfry 14, HHS 8

1989 HHS beat Belfry in overtime by a TD

1990 Belfry 38, HHS 7

I started a new thread and poll to discuss which school (Belfry or Johnson Central) has had the most success the past 10 years.

Okay. :lol2:
