State Championships to remain at WKU through 2018

Richmond is "centrally located"???

WKU is a nice facility but it's definitely not geographically central. EKU is the best option of the two because it's a better fit from a travel perspective. From Pikeville to Richmond is 4 hours. Paducah to Richmond? 4 hours. From Pikeville or Ashland to Bowling Green? You need a flight to get there the same day.

Um, no.

Per Google Maps:

Pikeville to Richmond: 135 miles (2:26)

Paducah to Richmond: 281 miles (4:19)

From Pikeville or Ashland to Bowling Green? You need a flight to get there the same day.

By the way, Ashland to Bowling Green per Google Maps is 272 miles (4:21), only two minutes longer than Paducah to Richmond. Why is it bad for Ashland to people to take "a flight" to Bowling Green, but the Paducah folks going to Richmond is okay because it is "more centrally located"?

Our old BGP friend westsider used to say that most Kentuckians don't realize Kentucky extends beyond Elizabethtown. I think this thread is proof of that.

With the proposed construction at EKU, scheduled to be completeded in 2016. Why not start in 2019 (after the latest contract with WKU ends) to alternate the championship games between EKU and WKU. EKU in even numbered years (when even districts, usually the eastern ones host the semi-final) and WKU in odd numbered years?

Just a suggestion.

Not a bad suggestion, although I'd let WKU host in even years (since eastern teams host semifinals in even years) and EKU in odd years. But that's splitting hairs.

I'd suspect that the KHSAA wants a long-term commitment with no rotations and I can't blame them.

I really do like the idea of alternating venues. EKU would provide the same environment maybe a tad better due to the layout as neither side will have an upper deck upon completion allowing the crowds to be closer to the field. On the flip side, that may cause some issues with the larger classes due to capacity. I am not certain what the average attendance has been in those games the past few years but the capacities are currently listed as 20,000 (EKU) and 22,113 (WKU) respectively, so it may be a nonfactor after all. Plus, Richmond has everything that Bowling Green could offer maybe more so with lodging, restaurants and retail shopping in located 20 minutes north in Lexington. I like gchs's idea but why not keep it in the West when Semi-State 1 is considered the home team and move it East when Semi-State 2 is the home team. We all may be on to something as a lot of good ideas are being tossed around.

I don't disagree with what you are saying. But logically it doesn't work. The base of the population in this state is in the central part of the state. The far eastern and western portions are out of the discussion when considering centrally what is centrally located, since Lexington, Louisville and NKY's population would outnumber the other areas by far.

I live in Ashland and have extended family in Paducah. The idea of needing to fly if its a short trip is not out of the question at all. My father in law is a pilot and owns a small plane, so I realise what the time difference is between driving or flying.

As far as a central location goes as far as population and drive time is concerned, the Lexington or Louisville area makes much more sense.

My other complaint is that WKU does not let the parents and students on the field after the game. Was this the procedure when held at Papa John?

If our school is ever good enough to win a championship, I'd like to see them try to keep the fans off the field.

It was the same at Papa Johns and the old Cardinal Stadium.

I remember Fans on the field at old cardinal stadium at Boyle, and Danville title games they might not have had permission, but it happened. I personally don't like WKU at all I hate the drive and the parking is terrible.

I am wondering why several have said that parking is terrible. You can park in a covered garage right beside the stadium. I don't think it gets more convenient than that.

They are a little more lenient with the last game of the day. At least that's been my experience. I don't remember a lot of fans on the rug at Cardinal Stadium. Mostly coaches, cheerleaders and press.

My friends and I used to go to the finals every year. went like 30 years in a row. We have not attended since it was moved to WKU. Looks like i wont be going for another 4 years. Just am not going to drive 4 hours or more to watch high school games when I have no kids, school, etc. involved

Richmond is "centrally located"???

Lebanon is the geographic center of Kentucky.

Willisburg is the population center of Kentucky.

Both of these towns are just SE and East, respectively, from Bardstown.

They are both closer to Richmond than they are to Bowling Green.

Willisburg to Bowling Green - (117 miles)

Willisburg to Richmond - (63 miles)

Lebanon to Bowling Green - (96 miles)

Lebanon to Richmond - (66 miles)
