Why Are We Obsessed Over Dunks?

Featured Replies

Just as Clyde has a problem with dunks, saying they are now commonplace and often overrated, I think the crossover dribble is grossly overrated.

I have been to several games in the past few years where a crossover dribble in the backcourt some 60 feet from the basket got the loudest recognition from the crowd for the entire evening.

A crossover dribble does little or nothing for me. Sorry PP92....I am with you on most issues. :)

Putting a dude on skates is always hilarious and not everyone can do it. However, a crossover means next to nothing for me if you don't nail the jumper or make a beautiful assist after the crossover. You have to add something to the crossover. What makes it special is that it is the first hit in a combo move. You have to do something special after the crossover in order for it to count. Otherwise it means squat to me.

Word.

Dunks are the ultimate in high percentage shots. Usually, if you are able to dunk (and I mean DUNK), especially at the high school level, then you are probably going to be in better shape than your opponent.

It's the most obvious way to tell when someone has a huge advantage because dunks are so rare. The type of athleticism that it takes to be able to really dunk is far more exclusive than it takes to consistently hit a free throw, etc.

Agreed. Warmup dunkers are cool and all but being able to dunk during a game consistently is a whole other level of athleticism(and sometimes height).

Dunks are top 5 things on Earth

Love the dunk. Just don't need to read about it every time one happens.

Dunks are momentum changers bc they fire up the team and the fans.
