lawildcat Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 WXIX : FOX19 Investigates: Hundreds of teachers disciplined by state Department of Education in Ohio and Kentucky They are former Tri-State teachers whose names are well-known for crossing the student-teacher boundary. Stacy Schuler is the former mason teacher convicted of drinking, smoking pot and having sex with five of her former students. Sarah Jones, the former Bengals cheerleader and Dixie Heights High School English teacher found guilty of sending sexually-explicit text messages to and having sex with one of her 17-year old students. And Julie Hautzenroeder is the former Colerain High School science teacher put behind bars, found guilty of drinking vodka, smoking pot and having sex with two of her students. But a recent FOX19 Investigation uncovered hundreds of teachers in Ohio and Kentucky who never made the headlines, but were disciplined by the state Board of Education for conduct issues since 2012. More than one thousand Ohio teachers had action taken against their teaching licenses during that time period. In Kentucky, there were nearly 900 teachers. But in Indiana, there were only 23 teachers disciplined by the state. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1buQu5dQDdKhMP91csmhdDtg64OecXdDAqZ9UNvGeuIM/pubhtml
Beechwoodfan Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Shame on Fox19. I agree. Obviously inappropriate relationships with students is newsworthy. However, most of these other charges could represent very minor things that could look much worse on paper. These teachers cannot defend themselves without violating students' privacy. It is a cheap shot to those who cannot legally explain what really happened.
Chatty Cat Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 I know that the teacher from Dayton, Nicole Howell, was found not guilty in court of the inappropriate student relationship/felony. However, she is still on this list. Kind of makes me wonder of the validity.
barrel Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 If I am not mistaken it what is on the list are things that were reported not necessarily that there was any wrong doing. I know there are some people on that list that it is not accurate. When I say not accurate I mean if anyone heard the real reason for being on the list they would laugh.

But unfortunately people won't know the real reasons why these teachers are on the list, and the TV station knows that and took advantage of it. People will assume the worse, and the Tv station knows that too. It is sweeps week?

Clyde Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 What actions might result in a "testing violation?"

I am surprised the Teachers Union hasn't pursued legal action on this practice. At a very minimum, if you are going to have a naughty list, the list needs to be 100% correct.
lawildcat Posted November 19, 2014 Author Posted November 19, 2014 I was under the impression that these records are the result of discipline doled out by the respective school district; they have nothing to do with charges brought forth by the state.

Imagine that, school says you are guilty, court of law says you are not guilty, but you are still on the list...

At a very minimum, if you are going to have a naughty list, the list needs to be 100% correct. They will likely contend that the list is accurate. They are not saying any of these teachers are guilty of what was reported, they are just being investigated for them. Hell, that could mean a parent was ticked little Timmy got a B+ and wanted to get back at the teacher.

Being a teacher is tough sledding, you couldn't pay me 100K a year to be a teacher.
