November 19, 201411 yr Because they finished the year #1 and returned the Heisman trophy winner and have had high expectations all year starting off #1. Miss. St wasnt even ranked which means they were expected to be a middle of the road SEC West team like always. Bama, Auburn, LSU, Texas A&M, and Ole Miss were picked a head of them. FL. St has done nothing to lose the #1 ranking. They have beaten good teams. Doesnt matter how they do it they just do it. Until they are beaten they should be #1. No one loss team should have been ahead of them. Who? Notre Dame? Miami? Their SOS is somewhere around 45.....
November 19, 201411 yr Who? Notre Dame? Miami? Their SOS is somewhere around 45..... Heard a blurb where FSU does not have a win over a team currently ranked in the top 20 or 25, forget which. Add to that their struggles to win and I can see why they are doubted.
November 19, 201411 yr Heard a blurb where FSU does not have a win over a team currently ranked in the top 20 or 25, forget which. Add to that their struggles to win and I can see why they are doubted. On the computer rankings it is top 25 in all but 2 I think.
November 19, 201411 yr On the computer rankings it is top 25 in all but 2 I think. A composite that USA Today puts out with all the computer rankings. Just a general FYI that everyone can use. http://i.usatoday.net/sports/college/football/2014-11-17-computer-composite.pdf But I believe the quote in this post is correct from glancing at it. Clemson or Notre Dame is rated in the top 25 of 3 of the 5, but they aren't both rated as such in any of the same polls. By the average, FSU has three wins over teams rated 28-30, and Louisville is just below at 33. My contention remains that FSU has beaten 3-4 solid, good but not great, teams. And played a couple of them at a time when they were playing better ball than they were before (UL and Miami) and/or at a time when they were actually healthy (Clemson) compared to the rest of the year. BTW, noting that Bama's best two wins by the SOS came in the last two weeks (which is an argument for them to be tops BTW), I bet that before those two games people still couldn't have been convinced that Bama hadn't played a better schedule even though at that time FSU would have had what looked like better games against the likes of Clemson and Notre Dame.
November 19, 201411 yr FSU has had good wins. At Clemson without Winston, Notre Dame when they were ranked and undefeated, and Louisville. Granted they dont look great now and may not be ranked. But they get there best from everybody and they keep winning. If your gonna argue quality wins. Who exactly has Miss St. beaten? Auburn is the only team they have beaten that is still ranked and they shouldnt be with 3 losses. SEC keeps them ranked.

Let's use your logic of "they were ranked and undefeated" at the time they played. In 3 consecutive weeks MSU beat the #8, #6, and #2 teams in the nation.

Let's use your logic of where they are now and you'll see SEC teams that were once heralded falling in the polls each week.
November 19, 201411 yr Who? Notre Dame? Miami? Their SOS is somewhere around 45..... SOS is a myth that is based on rankings done by people with biases and not people who watch every single games and judge teams by the product that is put on the field. The SEC is not playing high quality football this year and the quality of play in the SEC this season isn't leaps and bounds above any of the power conferences.
November 19, 201411 yr Like I said it dont look good now rankings wise but there still good teams. MSU wins look like FSU wins. Using your logic who has Miss St. beat?
November 19, 201411 yr Let's use your logic of where they are now and you'll see SEC teams that were once heralded falling in the polls each week. We agree on the "where they're at now." I just can't discount a continually challenging schedule. Ohio State has 2 tough games the entire season - Michigan State and the conference championship. FSU has a better schedule (without looking it up) than Ohio State but still IMO falls short of the SEC West schedule.
November 19, 201411 yr Like I said it dont look good now rankings wise but there still good teams. MSU wins look like FSU wins. Using your logic who has Miss St. beat? My logic? I was questioning yours. I've stated that I think going through the SEC West is tougher than the Big 10 or the ACC. That's my logic. Doesn't mean FSU and Ohio State aren't better. We just can't tell based on the less-than-demanding schedule.
November 19, 201411 yr Well Im not very logical or smart. I just think that FSU has played a good schedule not a great schedule. You cant control rankings and week to week play of teams. Some start off hot then falter or vice versa. I just dont think they have done anything wrong or deserve to have ever lost the #1 spot based on their schedule. For what its worth my logic says FSU will win the NC again.

SEC isn't as good as it has been, but to say it is not better than the Big 10 and ACC.....well.
November 19, 201411 yr A computer does it. SEC isn't as good as it has been, but to say it is not better than the Big 10 and ACC.....well. Never said those words. In fact I have stated multiple times the SEC is the best conference. I just don't think it is as great as folks are making it out to be. Does the computer factor in human rankings?

I just am not as sold on the SEC West as much as most folks and for me the SEC West isn't a determining factor in how good other teams are or may be.
