I have only missed 5 Bowling Green games in the last 25 years and the 2011 defensive unit was the best we have ever had! Period! This years defensive unit is very good, but not the best. I do think they are better than last years team. No one in 5A will beat the Purples this year. It's the weakest I can remember seeing. I believe Crider played in last years 49-10 loss at home to the Purples. I don't think he or the Graves County team has improved enough to beat the Purples at home this year. As always, John Hardin is 5A's only hope and I don't see it happening this year. They will be a force to reckon with the next few years.

The 2005 defense gave up 103 points in 15 games. Best D in the state that year and the best BG has ever had.

I would have to agree with pretty much everything you have said. I still hope JH gets one more crack at BG before we move down to 4A.

Was 1990's unit part of that? I'd be curious to know what someone thought of that year's edition. They gave up 40 points in 12 games and recorded seven shutouts. That included shutouts over the likes of Warren Central which had Damon Hood in his Mr. Football senior year. Ohio County was the only team to score more than 10 on them and no one scored more than 10 in a truly competitive game. I'd think that'd be a hard unit to top.

DF, Who beat BG in the playoffs in 1990?

Uh, no. 2011 had a nice set of down linemen, a knockout SS and a host of solid players, but it was not the 1990, 1995, 1998, or 2005 defenses. All of those were better defenses than 2011.

Owensboro. Bowling Green had beaten them 13-3 during the regular season but lost 10-0 in the second round.

Not in person this yr,. but. I don't think they're near as strong as last year & it would be a mistake to come into this game expecting a blowout. BG has struggled more than once this year against teams with similar talent levels than Graves. IMO, BG & McCracken are similar in talent, with a slight edge to BG and a big edge in coaching, Graves handled them pretty easily. Graves and OBoro are similar in talent with OBoro a few more better athletes and Graves a little better in the trenches and better fundamentally.

You actually sounded like you knew what you were talking about until this statement. McCracken had 6 turnovers and 20+ penalties (2 erased TD's) and 14 of Graves points came on pick 6's. Guess it was so "easy" would be the reason they aren't scheduling this game next year.

I was at the Damon Hood game. He ran for like 30something yards that night. He got nada that night and still won Mr. Football. That unit was ridiculous.

The 1990 and 1995 teams had very good defenses. The 2011 team started a little slow but by the end of the season, they were lights out. The 1995 team and the 2011 team won state titles, but for my money it was the 2011 team. They played a tougher schedule. IMO.

I think you will, Hoss. Also, I am already looking forward to the 2017 Raffertys Bowl. John Hardin vs Bowling Green. Both teams should be ranked #1 in their respective classes. It will be a dogfight! No pun intended.

Unless a bunch of the kids move, that will be JH's strongest team ever if they progress like I think they will.

113 yards on 29 carries. I mean, they were good, not superhuman!

Yeah, Damon was pretty good. :) I saw him at a Greenwood reunion a few years back. He looked like he could still run for a hundred on Bowling Green. He was fun to watch.

The only defense that Graves has faced this year that is anywhere near what they will see tonight is Mayfield. In the Mayfield game Crider ran for 102 yards. The rest of Graves offense was a goose egg. Nothing.

If Graves scores it will be late and meaningless.

This is a blowout win for BGHS.
