I wouldn't be overly focusing on stopping only Crider. Reed and Marshall will complement Crider as playmakers for the Eagles.

This would be the way to beat BG to throw the ball. If I were Graves, first play would be a play action bomb. I don't see one very good RB and a good OLine beating BG.

Purple, how does this BG defense compare with the last two years?

As others have stated, stop crider is all you need to be concerned with, MAFIELD kept him out of the end zone and Shut them out.

Hoss, IMO (and I'd like other BG fans to comment) the defensive side of the ball this year is the best of the last 4 years. It is hard for me to say that as I know our D has been extremely good the last 3 championship years. But the reason I say that is because we went from a linebacker dominated (Lincoln Quick - middle linebacker who started as a Freshman graduated last year was the anchor of the D) defense to a D Line dominated defense.

What does that change? Well, it is extremely hard to just line up and run the ball on BG because of the line (with support of a good LB corps). Also with Ben Holt (Sr DLineman ) especially, he causes such disruption in the backfield that he either demands a double-team all night or he's in the backfield, which allows the other lineman and linebackers (all seniors and the real strengnth of the team IMO), to make plays. They are not the fastest defense in the state probably, but they have speed.

Tre Boards is a Junior and started the year in the backup running back slot, but because of depth there was moved to corner. He plays the other teams best receiver and is very athletic. You may recall his big INTs in the Lex Cath game this year. I believe he is Nacarius Fant's cousin. The safety's are competent, but IMO not near as strong as the DLine.

Lastly, no high school offense I've seen would be able to just reload the potent weapons BG had from last years offensive team with Fant and company. And I have been really proud of the BG offense this year, especially QB Campbell Gott as he's done everything asked of him. But this is not the BG Offense of last year and as much as they have come back to earth, the BG D has improved. With that said, last week the BG O put a running clock on Hoptown at 50 to 0 with 30 seconds into the second quarter. So I'm splitting hair a bit. I honestly don't think Hoptown wanted to play that game. Just didn't act like it. But anything can happen in High School football. That's why I love it :)

Sorry to be so long winded, but wanted to give you a thorough answer.

Again, my evidence doesn't corroborate your's.

What evidence have you provided? Did the BG fan posting in the game thread watch a different game than you?

Great. Thanks for the rundown. The 2011 BG team was a phenomenal defense when they played us so it is hard to believe anyone is better than them. If we get past Iroquois then I will start worrying about you guys.

I don't disagree with your comment on the 2011 defense as that seems so long ago compared to this years team right in front of me, so I could be biased. But the game against John that year had alot to do with turnovers. Who caused them...who gave them up.....who cares.... we move one day closer to Game Day!!!!

Good Luck Hoss! If I were not going to BG for the game I would go to the John v Iroquois game.

What evidence have you provided? Did the BG fan posting in the game thread watch a different game than you?

Both teams are way different teams than they were when the regular season game took place. The fact that BG is still playing and Warren Central is at home and BBJ is a Warren Central guy is all the evidence I need.

Thanks. You have seen us play so what chance do you give us against BG if we were to meet.

Hoss, I don't want to get ahead of myself, so I'll dodge your question until next week.

BUT, this is what I like about John's chances SHOULD they move on to the Turkey Bowl.

- Playing at Home. John has a good home field advantage.

- John is improving with every practice and the younger kids are starting to get it.

- It should be cold (that's the ways it's supposed to be) and that should increase turnovers. John could get an advantage here.

- I like what I've seen of John's defense lately. They will need a big day.

- The wing T, if run well and John runs it well, is a very effective offense even if you know it's coming. It always seems to take BG a half to make the necessary adjustments to it.

I could ramble on, but IMO John is the only team that will put up a challenge for BG. I don't really know anything about SW (except they are well coached and have multiple offensive looks) and Pulaski without Hall is not the same team.

True, otherwise we would not have BGP. Or the site would be a statement followed by dozens of "likes". Boring.

Ben Holt for BG was just named player of year by coaches association for this region. Purples defense is not only good but are peeking right now.

The RB at Graves is good. He will break 1 or 2 but the problem is BG thinks this is all Graves has. The kid is good but not near as good as the RB from McCallie.

BG wins with running clock.

Ben Holt is a defensive lineman as well as playing some fullback. He is truly a beast. Will be a great fullback at college level.
