He has caught more TD passes than Megatron this year I believe. So are you ok with picking your spots with kids both ways? If so, how is that not different that what I suggested?

I still contend that for Ashland to be successful in the playoffs they have to fully platoon. I don't think that because of their great players, or their not so great players, I think they have to do it because that is what the good teams in their class are doing. If no one in their class platooned, then it wouldn't be necessary, but there are teams in their class that do it, and they will not compete with those teams unless they platoon.

 

You can't expect your OL to play both ways and compete with DL that only playing one side of the ball. It will work in the first quarter, similar to the success Ashland had with Highlands the last two years, but in the fourth quarter you will see the difference. The same is true for your RB. How much fuel would a good RB have in the fourth quarter after only playing one side of the ball versus playing all the plays for an entire game?

 

Looking past the games, how much better is a player if they practice one position every single practice, versus practicing one day per week at each of two positions. And, how much better does a player get practicing against your starters on the other side of the ball versus practicing against the freshman scout team. Real game-like practice.

There are advantages no doubt. If Ashland was ever gonna go that route they should have started it Sam Hunter's senior year. They had two stacked classes of upper classmen, but even that team played Whetsel, Justice, OBryan, Prichard, McLeod, and Gregg both ways. Is that why they lost to Cov Cath in the playoffs? I dont think so.

Ryan Switzer played every snap for GW. He kicked and punted. Why? Becuase with a guy that good you better have him on the field.

I want everyone to remember this thread, because at some point some Ashland coach will have the guts to platoon and it will change Ashland football. And, I don't want the, "we have better athletes now" argument when it happens. All I want to hear is, "Ram tried to tell us this years ago".

I don't think Ashland fields the kids to fully platoon. We can discuss the reasons why, but still doubt they do. Or at least fully platoon kids who could do it at a respectable level.

It's more of an evolution of the differences between the two programs and why Highlands won this game.
