2015 State Title Contenders

Featured Replies

You never know what your going to get when you bring a bunch of new guys together, but they have one guy who would have been a top 2-4 player in the 12th region this year and another guy who would have been top 3 in the 10th region in Ronnie Carson and DJ Jenkins. They also return Hines Jones who I was very impressed with last season.

They are also led by one of, if not the, most successful coaches roaming the sidelines today.

I think their potential puts them into the contenders. I would say they are similar to Ballard in that their team won't look at all like last years, so we don't have nearly as good an idea of what to expect as we do with the other teams listed.

Was hoping to see Scott Co Tuesday night at Holmes but I fly out to San Francisco that morning for the week...guess I'll have to settle for updates and analysis from AllSport71.

I believe Carson is now at Station.

Gonna throw some love to the Camels from CC as a dark horse after their showing last year......

Why is Scott Co so high? It's Trinity and the rest IMO.

Because of their past history,,every year you think they be down, but has not happened recently, I agree Trinity is the team to beat, but favorite has not faired well the last couple of years..its time to roll the ball out and get some answers,,too many projections this time of the year

Who are the teams that should be in the discussion as potential state champions this season?

The Favorite:

Trinity

The Contenders:

Doss

Ballard

Newport Catholic

Scott Co

Wayne Co

Knott Co Central

Possible Challengers:

Owensboro

Hopkinsville

Taylor Co

Manual

Holmes

Lexington Catholic

Boyle Co

Lincoln Co

I will say this is not exactly how I have these teams ranked in my preseason poll.

What does everyone else think? Any team I'm giving too much or too little credit?

I do not see Holmes making much noise this year......

What makes you say this?? Where did you get info from. Haven't heard anything about Ronnie going to Bryan Station

The talent is there for them to make noise...consistency is what will determine how good they can be.

Bolden, McClendon, and Avery are good enough for them to beat most teams. They beat the 10th region favorite Camels by 25 at their place over the summer with both teams having their full roster and Booher subbing freely.

I guess we will know more after they play Scott Co Tues.

Mark your calenders......Tuesday Feb. 17th, up on the "hill".......Trinity vs. NewCath :thumb:

Having backed the winner last season from pre season, I must say with all the modesty I can Muster.....Covington Catholic will be in the mix.

Read the Bryan Station team thread, that's where I saw it.

I think Owensboro can contend. With Holman and Miller inside, they will be real tough in the paint(i know they didnt exactly show it at Rupp last year). The x factor for the RedDevils will be guard play and depth. They have a sophmore point guard in Jacoby Harris who i expect will be much improved this season. They only lost their 6th man from the team that went to Rupp last season. Factor in the summer that Aric Holman had and I expect OHS to be very good in 2015.

I would throw Apollo in the mix for two reasons. #1 Eli Wright is one of the best players in the state of KY. #2 Steve Barker returning to Apollo to coach. Factor in their strong supporting cast and I look for big things from the Eagles this season.

This. Camels are a team to watch this year.

I missed that. I may have to rethink things.

I really don't know much about Apollo. I've heard Wright is fantastic, but I think their early exit from last seasons postseason, along with their relatively weak schedule last season makes them more of an unknown.

They also didn't post stats on the KHSAA website, so that makes it hard to know how many of their contributors are returning. I will definitely try to get out to see them this season, so that could help.

They were the first team I left off.

If there are 15 teams in Kentucky better than CovCath this year, we are in for a great ride in 2014-15.
