As far as the AC/Scott game, it was a well played game for the first half. When AC scored in the third, it seemed to take the wind out of Scott's sails. Scott has a solid team. #33 is a heck of a ball player. Their DB's need some work. I would like to see them just line up and run an offense without all the trickeration. I think it would serve them better. It looks like they have the ability IMHO.

 

Anderson Co. and South Oldham should be another good game. It was a shoot out last time with SO coming out on top. Hopefully it will be a better defensive effort by both teams this time.

Scott and its coaching staff are doing a good job building the program there. I think they are ready to step up the schedule just a bit to take the next step forward. Good year for the Eagles. Progress.

Really?? Back to back winning seasons for the first time ever. And say what you want about the schedule, but Newport and Holmes beat Scott every year (and easily) up until last year. 5 years ago, Scott couldn't post winning records with multiple 1a and 2a teams on the schedule. And let's face it, this group of Seniors went from winning only 2 games total in their 8th and 9th grade seasons to being the only 4 year class to exit Scott with a winning record. How is that a Joke?? This program has been terrible for 30 years. Was Wooley supposed to have won a State Championship in 3 years after taking over a program that no coach in the state would even come near?? Really, what Dave Campbell, then Wooley have done over the last 6 years is pretty remarkable.

People overestimate this recent success. Woolley schedules cake games early so his team is 4-0 heading into district play. Winning seasons mean NOTHING when you beat up on little brother, then get your butt whipped when you pick on someone your own size. It's all smoke and mirrors.

Lets look at the schedule--

 

East Jessamine--5A school, beat Franklin County

Holmes--When this game was scheduled, Scott hadn't beaten them in years. They'll be in district with Holmes next year.

Newport- Another team that up until the last two years had regularly beaten Scott, and many predicted Newport would win this year

Aiken--Bad game, probably shouldn't have been scheduled. I'll give you this one.

Holy Cross--Had just won a state title when scheduled. HC also appears on CC's, SK's, Conner's schedule this cycle. No one would have predicted they'd fall so far, so fast

Mason County--An undefeated 3A team last year, and 8-2 this year, moving up to 4a in district with Scott next year.

 

Based on where Scott was 3 years ago when this schedule was put together, what would you have done differently?? Remember, they hadn't had a winning season since who knows when. And in years prior, they had LLoyd, Bellevue, Harrison county, Dayton and other small teams who weren't very good at the time on their schedule. And they still couldn't put together a winning season. Numbers were also very bad, they had no feeder program, no tradition or history in the program. Good teams didn't want to play them because they were so bad. And you can't build a program playing teams you have no chance against. And Scott has been either the smallest or one of the smallest 5A schools in the division, and the smallest school in their district by a longshot. 2 of those teams are moving up to 6A this year, one of which they beat.

 

Next year, SK, Dixie and NCC are on the schedule. Woolley IS stepping the schedule up, right in line with their recent success. If Campbell and Woolley hadn't taken over that mess a few years ago, Scott may not have even had a football team to talk about.

Maybe. But lets look at what Woolley has accomplished---

 

1. He's the only Coach in Scott history to have a winning record. And say what you want about the schedule, but his schedule is no worse than his predecessors, and his first season, the schedule wasn't his.

 

2. Back to back winning seasons for the first time in program history.

 

3. Had a winning season this year, returning only 2 starters, one of which was the leading tackler from last year, who had to transfer before the season started because his family moved. Almost everyone had this years team pegged to have a losing season.

 

4. Won their way into the playoffs 3 consecutive years, again for the first time ever.

 

5. Helped develop the feeder program, which last year helped the middle school win their first championship ever. And that group followed up with a Freshman Championship

 

Is he perfect? No...no one is. And sure, he can be second guessed, just like any other coach. But to say he's a "joke" based on losing games to more talented teams, all while being competitive is just silly, and makes it sound like you have an axe to grind

When has Newport beaten Scott on a regular basis within the past 15-20 years? They may have played each other in the 80's or early 90's but they haven't played since until 2007. Since 2007, Scott is 5-1 against Newport outscoring them 183-48 in those games.

 

I think a fair question to ask is if these Scott teams under Woolley have gotten better by the end of each respective season. I honestly can't say they have.

That is probably a fair question. I would say though, of the last two years, the only games they've lost that they were favored in would be the Mason County game this year. All the other losses were either toss up games or games they were expected to lose. They certainly weren't favored in either playoff game. And expectations this year weren't very high, and I'd say they performed as expected.

 

Next year is the key year. Expectations will be very high.

I think Scott is riding on what Dave Campbell started and the Talent the Little Eagles is providing now. They have some very good coaches in the program now , I'm just not sure the right one is in charge. The program is going in the right direction from the hard work of some , but the cup cake scheduled kills you at the end of the year! Dixie , SK and NCC is a good start!

You cannot change a culture in 2 years. Scott will be fine with the coach they have at the helm. Next year will be a big year for them. With the feeder program in place I anticipate watching good football for a long time Taylor Mill.
