There are players on both these teams that wanted to play. There are players on both teams questioning why play this game. The answer to that has nothing to do with this game. The answer to that is there are at least 50 other games where all the players on both teams want to play. That is why this game has to be played.

Because they would have their chance in the regular season to qualify for the top 3 in the District and earn another game. Same way as the 30 teams that did not make the playoffs this year had a chance to qualify. Why aren't they included in the playoffs?

 

I'm sure a lot the first round losers in the basketball Districts would love to play another game but they do not get to. Football District play takes place during the season. And hey you can even lose more than 1 game and still be in the Top 3 and qualify to go on.

Really? They don't have to. Up until last year the 36th District never had any District games because they did not seed. And there is no requirement to seed the District tourney now so they can go back to not playing District games any time the teams vote to do away with seeding. And I hate to tell you but the District winner and loser at the end of the season advance to the Regional so what are those district games during the season accomplishing?

 

Football can't do their District play after the regular season because they can't play multiple games in a short period. So what's wrong with playing the District during the season and not taking the District winner and loser further into the playoffs like basketball......but taking the District winner, the District runner-up AND the District third place team into the playoffs?

 

So Dayton would not go on in 1A because they finished 4th and 3rd place Ludlow who won 1 district game (over Dayton) would still get to go on. In 2A 3rd place Lloyd who beat only Holy Cross and Brossart in the district gets to go on. To me that is more than fair since the teams that did not get to go on had every chance to do so.

Nearly all basketball districts play regular season district games for seeding (just like football). The district in Boone Co. plays home and home district games in the regular season for seeding. Then they have the district tournament.

Hey that's great. Football has all the participants in the district play each other in the regular season. And at most only the top 3 should go on to post season play. That's one less team and avoids the abundant running clock games that do not need to be played. No financial hardship to schools. And makes the district games played during the season much more meaningful. Right now they are for seeding purposes only in the majority of districts. Dayton versus Ludlow becomes a win and go on game. What a great experience for those players and fans versus hey the loser gets to go on the road and play a number 1 seed in a running clock game.

This "nonsense" as you call it is NOT just over one 62-0 game. The first round of the PLAYOFFS should not be treated as a bye week for the #1 seeds as often as it is.
