November 5, 201411 yr 9 Democratic senators up for re-election in 2016. 25 Republican senators up for re-election.
November 5, 201411 yr I'm certain that there will be a bill passed that every major channel will have to carry SEC games and Ohio State will be reduced to being carried on the Oprah network. First order of business.
November 5, 201411 yr I guess my concern is this: The Republican platform pretty much ran on NOT being a Democrat; ergo not at fault for anything that's wrong in the government. I don't know what that means they'll actually DO now that they're in charge. Is that too much to ask?
November 5, 201411 yr And the last two...it is difficult to reply to a statement that is posed as a question. It was hard for me to get past the first two. He claims to not be a dem or rep but then calls the rep's puppets. When's the last time he start a thread to call the dems puppets and attack them.

I don't know what that means they'll actually DO now that they're in charge. Is that too much to ask? Truthfully, I think they have a pretty clear vision at this point. It's the Democrats that lack a clear platform. The Democratic party is a conglomeration of all the people that support things the Republicans won't do or will get rid of if they come into complete control in Washington: environmental groups, supporters of massive social welfare programs, labor unions, etc. Not every Democratic candidate supports all those things but has to juggle them all in a really difficult way. It's not helping them out. The Republican message -- less government, less taxation -- is pretty clear. There are some peripheral issues about border security and stuff like that, but the main Republican message is crystal clear and they can scream it at the top of their lungs. It makes for a compelling set of talking points when you only have a few things to hammer home.
November 5, 201411 yr Isn't that what it's all about? How many millions were spent in Kentucky for Mitch McConnell to win by 15 points? Same as it ever was. One of the most expensive Senate Races in History, but let's not act like Grimes didn't break records with her spending also.
November 5, 201411 yr One of the most expensive Senate Races in History, but let's not act like Grimes didn't break records with her spending also. That's exactly what I mean. It takes two to tango. Hugely expensive race in which most voters didn't particularly like either candidate that amounted to absolutely nothing. Same as it ever was.

Candidates have to stake out positions that they don't always want to, just to get votes.

I don't know what that means they'll actually DO now that they're in charge. Is that too much to ask? Rockmom, the republicans are not really in charge. Obama can (and will) veto things that they send to him that he does not like. The good news (I think) is that things will not be buried under Harry Reid's desk now. Bills can be passed and sent to Obama. At least the country will see now what the Republicans want to pass and whether they and Obama can work together or not. People will be able to decide for themselves but at least the process will be more transparent (at least I hope so). And as a conservative, I fully realize the republicans may screw up things with party infighting now too...
November 5, 201411 yr Not a rep or dem. A question for you republicans. Your party has the House and the Senate. They will get the top spot of the President in the next election. The democrats have shown that controlling two of the three doesn't work. When your party shows it cannot make things better in this country as they control all three how will you twist it to make it the democrat's fault? Just use the President's playbook from his first term when the Democrats controlled all three, "I'm doing all I can but it's W's fault, he left me a mess"

November 5, 201411 yr The democrats screwed their chances up in this election and Obamas presidency has been so bad that his party for the first time in a long time have gotten crushed in the elections. So much so that his own state went with a republican gov which hasn't happened in ages. I heard numbers such as first time since the 1800's have some of these elections gone the way they had. Obama if he pushes they amnesty like he said he would will be the kiss of death for the WH in 2016. So watch and see what happens with that.

He's been really disappointing. I have a few friends here in town that have their politics somewhere just to the right of Trotsky. They're pretty let down. They wanted to shove healthcare reform down the throats of the right when it happened so badly they could almost taste it. He's become the official President of Drone Bombing. He's presided over a massive expansion of peacetime spying both at home and abroad. I've heard them lament over the years that if he'd been a strong enough leader for the party, he'd have shoved through single-payer back in 2009 instead of this bit-by-bit stuff. The hard left wanted a new Lyndon Johnson. What they got was a wet noodle.

The he ammesty thing will be interesting. He waited on purpose to do this until after the elections so it wouldn't hirt the democrats running. Now it will affect the WH if he does what many think he will do.
