I agree that it isn't special but it isn't average either. He could be faster. We will find out bc he will get a full ride to a good school and be moved to WR.

W those smarts and ability...no doubt. Once Hoge relaxed he matched him pretty well considering the pressure he faced. I love these types of games. High skill, high speed...just fun to watch.

Wow, it doesn't sound like this was ever in doubt. I'm shocked at the big lead Elder ran out to.

A few things. Ramsey's first name is Doug and he can definitely be a wild man on the sideline. His antics tonight are pretty common for him. Ramsey the QB is a stud and a pretty decent basketball player as well. To start as a sophomore in two sports at Elder is impressive. Elder's offensive line dominated the HHS defensive line - no shock there - what surprised me was that HHS continually only rushed 3 guys. Ramsey is impressive but he had ALL DAY to throw. I would have liked to see HHS take some chances with bringing some blitzes. They may have been burned a few times but why not take the chance? The HHS coaches know a heck of a lot more about football than I do so I will give them the benefit of the doubt but I wish they would have tried to bring more pressure on Ramsey.

 

It was nice to see HHS make the game interesting in the second half. Hoge missed some throws he normally makes in the first half and the receivers had numerous CRITICAL drops tonight in both halves. Against a team as good as Elder, you just cannot do that. Hoge played great in the second half IMO. The Abner and Watson injuries do NOT look good. I am pretty sure Abner is done for the year. We could hear him screaming fairly high up in the stands and it was not pleasant. You could tell it shook up the players and coaches for both teams based on their reactions...tough for the kid on his senior night....especially to get hurt with one minute to go in a game that was already decided.

 

Time for the Birds to regroup and hopefully make a nice run now.

Why defer after winning the coin toss? More than likely it does not make a difference in the long run, however with a QB as good as Hoge I want the ball. Not sure why you would give any road team the chance to gain the advantage.

As far as only rushing 3 it looked like they weren't really even rushing just trying to keep Ramsay from running. On pass plays it seemed to put more pressure on the DB's as he literally could have sat down and ate a steak a few times. With that said he has tremendous scrambling much like Hoge so damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Very difficult reading this after leaving the perch a couple minutes early last night. I sure hope and pray that they mend completely. Watson has been through the ringer and already has overcome so much. Cowboy is special, getting up reading this just makes me sick. I can't even put into words how much I enjoy watching that young man play football.

The exchange with Ramsey, the coach, and HHS fans took place right after Abner was helped off the field. He did in fact turn to the HHS stands after opting to run a play versus taking a knee and commented to the effect " I could have called a time out" ... I suppose meaning he could have run one more play. Not sure what that would have proven but I did think his reaction to the HHS fans was completely unwarranted and poor. The game was decided, Abner suffered an extremely painful and possibly season ending injury, and the coach decides to run a play versus taking a knee. Very weak indeed..

 

On a positive note HHS did not quit as one would expect they wouldn't. While all the HHS detractors on BGP will take pleasure in the HHS loss and "go on" about where HHS will be ranked or how deep they will go in the playoffs I will close with this:

 

I would not want to be HHS's opponent next or any week thereafter, this team does not give up! The old adage of " be careful for what you ask for" certainly applies. I truly hope Abner, Watson and a few others can recover and complete their senior season..
