I hope that people who are lobbying to move the tournament out of Mason County are making "off the cuff" statements. Because if you think about it, and take all things into consideration (as those who make these decisions have) you will see there is no other option right now.

I think we are saying combining the centralized location for the schools in the region ALONG with the size of the facility, it is the best choice.

 

Taking the mileage from the post further up the list and excluding Mason/Montgomery.

 

9 schools would see close to a doubling of their mileage in going from Mason to Montgomery County.

 

4 schools would see a reduction of mileage. Paris/Bourbon County would see an 18-mile reduction.

 

2 schools it would be pretty much a wash.

 

So a move to Montgomery or Clark would ONLY see benefits to Montgomery, Paris, Bourbon County or Clark County.

Every other region in KY has schools that are more "centrally located", but they still rotate the host site, or play at a neutral site. It is simply not fair for one school to have home court advantage every single season.

Remember unlike the 9th region, you can't get to many of the 10th region schools in 30 minutes like you can get to all of the 9th region schools. Cost of transportation is high. We have to pay close to $1 per mile. One bus for bball team, one for cheerleaders, 2 or 3 for band, 1 or 2 for pep bus. Plus, $10 per hour for the bus drivers. You are easily getting close to a $1,000 for one game at Winchester or Mt. Sterling.

GRC had to charter 3 buses to go Monday and Friday.One for band, boys, and Cheerleaders...no pep bus those night. Yes THAT was expensive..could not get the buses back in from thier rounds in time with the game at 5:00 both nights.

Understand, Pendleton County dismissed early on Friday so that busses can run routes and be available to make the trip to Maysville. For most of the region, though, a move to Winchester or Mt. Sterling would put them in even worse situations.

 

We dismissed at 1:00. Busses were done with routes by 3:00 and could leave at that time and get to Maysville by 4:00, an hour before gametime.

 

For Mt. Sterling, dismissing at 1:00 would not help. We would need to dismiss school by 12:30 at the latest.

But 9 out of 17 schools would have increased mileage by going to Mt. Sterling/Winchester. It is obvious that a move to either would be a bigger hardship on more teams than keeping it at Maysville.

I believe about 2 hours for Pendleton Countians. It is not located within our region. Memorial Coliseum would be a better location than Morehead.

I understand and if I was an administrator at GRC or Montgomery, first I would give HUGE RAISES to Coach True and High:D and I would push to host it too.:thumb:

MSU would be a 2 hour drive for Scott/Calvary.
