I don't know the particulars, and I will venture a guess that none of the posters above know much more. So, allegations of impropriety, etc. are just speculation to further their own political opinions. It is possible there was a contract or other employment issue where it made more sense to make the payment as a full release of any potential liabilities rather than undertake a protracted litigation that only makes attorneys wealthy.

Just saw the clip again of DNC press operative Chuck Todd telling a liberal MSNBC audience that Grimes refusal to own her vote for Obama disqualifies her. If a died in the wool lib like Todd feels that way why should anyone vote for the 3rd choice of the Dem machine?

As if you don't address it when asked, then people will just assume the worse. This isn't a small or unimportant issue, and some involved may end up doing time. And Mitch may have not known about it, but not to say anything? If a presidential campaign manager gets under $250,000, how is is justified that Benton got around $650,000? Speaking to republican friends they most flattering words they had for Benton was he is a piece of garbage, and the other descriptions went down hill from there. As was mentioned, Benton is related to Paul, I think he is married to Ron's granddaughter? As far as Chuck Todd goes, he also latter tried to backtrack and take back what he said.
