Putting together a tough schedule is one thing. But Holy Cross's schedule is brutal. And I know NCC's is tougher, but NCC has a long tradition that helps keep the talent flowing. Holy Cross aside from one state title, doesn't have that tradition and getting pounded by two schools in your back yard (Scott and SK) doesn't exactly invite the local talent. Rather than scheduling 5 and 6a teams, they could back off a little and play some schools at or slightly above their enrollment. They need wins right now to keep the fan base energized and to start attracting talent again.

 

Several years ago when Holy Cross was good and then moved from 1A to 2A they still had the Ludlow's, Bellevue's and Dayton's on the schedule. Unfortunately some very lopsided scores left a lot of bad taste with schools and they all dropped Holy Cross from their schedules. This was also around the same time as the KHSAA referendum to seperate private schools from the general KHSAA population and force them into their own divisions (remember that mess....it was actually voted on!!!!). There were some "heated discussions" that some people have very long memories about (unfortunately). Holy Cross really needs to get those guys back on the schedule if possible.

OK, Enrollment question then. Are they on the same fence as Brossart? Would they jump down to 1A?

 

They are still a little too big for 1A. They'll be 2A next season with NewCath, Newport, and Lloyd.

Totally agree. A guy who proves that he can win a state title at a small school, obviously knows something about football. The guy gets very little pay and still does all of the cleaning, loading of equipment, cutting of grass, and painting of the fields(for no additional pay) aside from his teaching and coaching duties at the school. Not many head coaches would do this for their schools for free in my opinion. He has shown his loyalty to the school and the players. HC needs to show their loyalty to him.....in my opinion

Just love these kinds of questions. This IS NOT college or professional football. These are not highly paid, high profile coaches or jobs for that matter. Parents, fans, hangers-on, whatever, who believe that a coaching change is suddenly going to bring out major changes in participation, or talent, or size are absolutely fooling themselves. Unless a coach has done something heinous, or unethical, what do you expect to happen by changing coaches? Perhaps that wasn't your purpose for asking the original question, but I somehow think it was. The majority of small schools especially are cyclical at best in terms of talent. There certainly are anomalies (see Beechwood, Mayfield, etc.) but even places like Pikeville and Williamsburg, who are currently having success, have seen many down years or periods regardless of the coach. I say support the program, support the guy who has been there and been committed for years and look beyond wins and losses to what the coach has contributed to the school and the players. THAT is what a coach is about.

Personally not a big fan of Koz's coaching style but to each his own and he should only move on when he is ready to move on. I could see him moving to a fund raising or AD type position at Holy Cross and turning the coaching duties over to someone else when he is ready.

Is the lack of students due to the principal, the superintendent, the bishop, or economics? If its economics, doesn't attracting students fall on the principal, the superintendent, and the bishop? I just know it's not the fault of the football coach. He didn't forget how to coach football. He needs players.
