Florida mom demands Toys 'R Us drop 'Breaking Bad' action figures from stores - NY Daily News

 

 

A Florida mom is demanding Toys 'R Us pull "Breaking Bad" action figures that come complete with a toy bag of crystal meth from sale because she says they glorify drug use.

 

Susan Schrivjer, from Fort Myers, claims the plastic figurines of the show's anti-hero Walter White and junkie partner Jesse Pinkman "aren't suitable" for children.

 

And she's now launched a Change.org petition calling for the store to remove the dolls from its racks and website.

 

"I was very shocked and appalled," she told the Today show about how she felt when she stumbled across the figurines — that also come with gas masks and a duffel bag of cash.

 

"Anything to do with drugs is not doing the right thing," she added. "I just think that they need to look at their visions and values, as they call them."

 

Her petition — titled "Remove Breaking Bad dolls from their shelves" — has so far gained 1,915 signatures.

 

"The show centers on the story of a high school chemistry teacher who becomes a drug kingpin in order to make ends meet," she states on the call for action.

 

"While the show may be compelling viewing for adults, its violent content and celebration of the drug trade make this collection unsuitable to be sold alongside Barbie dolls and Disney characters," she adds.

 

Toys 'R Us said it was aware of the petition, but it looks unlikely the store will pull the figurines any time soon.

 

"The product packaging clearly notes that the items are intended for ages 15 and up," a spokesman told NBC News.

 

"The toys are located in the adult action figure area of our stores," he added.

Whoever made the decision at Toys R Us to put this on their shelves is, in my opinion, a grade a moron.

Thats something that should be sold at a Spencers and not a kid store.

I am a big fan of the show, but it is not for kids and there should never be action figures. I agree with her 100%.

In essence she is right.

Bad idea by Toys R us.

However she has no right to force them to do anything. Just don't buy them. Don't go to the store. Heck organize a boycott of the store.

I can't imagine this is worth the headache for Toys 'R Us and definitely seems to be outside their normal demographic.

Who goes to Toys R Us period?? Between the other big box stores (who carry all the same stuff and are usually cheaper) which are usually more conveniently located, and online stores like Amazon, I can't believe people are still even shopping at toys are us.

Evidently you haven't been to Toys R Us around Christmas because the answer to your question is "pretty much every person on the planet" judging by how crowded they are. And while I agree with about Amazon, you are not correct about the big box stores. Wal-Mart has a pretty crappy selection compared to Toys R Us and the prices aren't much better.
