I have been told that a lot of the players for both teams have connected via Twitter and have been nothing but cordial to each other. Nice to hear that kids competed hard and gave it their all on the field and are able to act like young gentleman after the game. This is obviously a reflection on both teams head coaches and the respect that they command in their respective programs.

All of this is no surprise to me and actually I am glad someone posted this email afterall...

 

I actually saw the email right after it came out and had already text my guy back and said why don't you post that on BGP....and then erased it because really it is not important that Highlands fans / players / coaches, etc boast about someone saying something nice about them and posting it on a social media site to brag about themselves or try and change how people perceive oneself but more importantly about how Highlands and Ft Thomas is a God fearing community of Christians that just gets it and they really try to do the right thing all of the time, not just some of the time...:thumb:

 

But at the end of the day this is KY and KY folks take pride in their hospitality and good morals and Highlands knows they were representing the Commonwealth this past week and did not want to disappoint the perceptions of this great state with whether we won or lost a football game only mentallity but whether we actually did win our opponents at the end of the football game...

 

I think you nailed it as to why it was good to post. In no way would I have taken it as a Highlands guy boasting. Actually, since it's no surprise that HHS' community is that way I was more impressed with the fact the coach took the time to send a note.

And some question why this game is played or what teams get out of this...well their coach gets it. High School sports go way beyond the action on the field. It's not about wins and losses. High School coaches are teachers...an extension of the class room. They teach the subjects you don't get in school. Life lessons. How to succeed and fail. How to overcome obstacles. How to handle yourself in real life situations. And how to handle adversity. They teach work ethic. And much, much more. If you're a high school coach and those things aren't at the top of your list, you do not need to be coaching high school. These two coaches get it! It refreshing to see!

Don't forget us little guys.... This email to Highlands is one the reasons why I coach the 7th & 8th grade levels. It's pretty awesome to be so blessed to coach such great young men. I coached against Chris Merrit in Canton in 2011 for the USA team and you won't find a better person/coach out there. His email backs it up!

I agree 1000% - should be listed in all schools coaches handbooks. The challenge would be to get some coaches to read and understand it.

Did anybody notice that the coach from CC didn't mention one word about the game itself? It was all about sportsmanship and class of the players, fans, and coaches. I'm like some others on here and wasn't surprised about the sportsmanship comments. I think it says a lot about a program/team that doesn't lose very often, to lose with class. Again, agree that both coaches "get it."

I am with you here Stinky. Maybe that is something schools should be required to develop and have ALL coaches read it and understand it whether it be boys or girls sports.

The minute I read the email I knew HHS had found a way to lock up RCC9 and apparently 75 Center as well. All kidding aside, I wouldn't expect anything less from the HHS community, job well done guys.

I have to keep changing disguises to get into the stadium. My Groucho Marx glasses and mustache isn't working anymore.

 

It is nice that people know all of us old blowhards on this site don't represent the football team. I know that's true of all programs.

Highlands has always and will always be known for two things: dominant football and classy folks. Each time we have played them, regardless of how close the game has been, they were very respectful to the JC faithful. Best of luck the rest of the way.
