The reason I put Pikeville at #1 is for a few reasons. #1) Paintsville.. They beat this team by 60 pts and since then, Paintsville has beaten an improving LCA team who beat Middlesboro handily and also a solid Fairview team.. To me, that makes that win more impressive than it did 2-3 weeks ago. #2) Belfry manhandling a solid CAK team.. That was a great win, but, moreso, the margin was what was impressive. This is a team that in 2011 and 2012, knocked off Alcoa 4 times. I realize this isn't the same CAK team, but, still impressive and makes the Belfry win by Pikeville even more impressive. #3) The Beechwood win over Franklin Co looks a little less impressive now that they've played a few more games and dropped out of the Top 10. #4) You could certainly make a case for Mayfield and they've been about as solid as you could ask, but, McCracken has come back to earth some and that OT loss isn't as good as it initially looked and while they have some nice wins over Graves, Murray and Tilghman, all 3 of those have been up and down and none really a signature win like Pikevile has. - UK fball fan

They have a #1's resume.

They have the best win.

Of the three Top 1A teams they are the only one who is undefeated.

The CPU's say they are #1

With that said......

Mayfield is #1.

You could most certainly make a case for Pikeville being #1 but Mayfield has played some very solid teams and done a fine job. I don't think McCracken is getting much love since the Graves defeat and maybe rightly so. But a healthy McCracken is a very very good team. On paper Pikeville looks like it could be the superior team but my money would be on Mayfield against any class 1A team.

Pretty much my line of thinking at the moment

I hope all you people keep sleeping on Beechwood. This isn't the same Beechwood team of the past few years. This team can do it through the air or on the ground. I for one think the Beechies will take the whole thing this year!

If Mayfield gets a chance against Beechwood they will be taken very serious. I think it will take a team that runs and throws to beat Mayfield.

Is this the same post that has been copied and pasted every year for the last 6 years???

While football challenged somewhat the last few years, there has never been a shortage of that post or believers that think its always done better up north. Song of the decade in Ft Mitchell easily has to be "Don't Stop Believin'" by JOURNEY

Even a broke clock gets it right twice so maybe but I am not real sold that Bw has it figured out

They key in that post that is different from previous years is the part about the passing game and balanced offense. This Beechwood team still isn't as good running the ball as previous years, but it is one of the best Beechwood teams I have seen throwing the ball. The offensive play calling this year is head shoulders better than I have seen. Of course, when you have the weapons to be balanced it sure helps with the play calling.

I'm a Highlands guy.. You haven't seen my posts over the past 6yrs. I have no dog in the fight but I know what I have seen with my own eyes this year out of Beechwood.

Williamsburg might have a say in this as well. They are 7-0 and have demolished everyone they've played except Newport which they won by 9.

I also think Raceland is running under the radar. They are having a good season. The schedule for those two (Williamsburg, Raceland) is weaker than Pikeville, Mayfield, Beechwood. That Newport game puts some doubts in my mind about Williamsburg being at the same level of the other three.

Getting back to the original thread question the answer is YES, the Panthers should be number one. Last game of the season against Russell should be an interesting matchup.
