But as for who's calling the shots in Washington, I recall every government department and agency feeling the pain when House Republicans mandated across the board cuts in every department in order to end the shutdown. Democrats aren't asking to cut NIH funding, Republicans are. They've been after the NIH for years among other departments they think are doing "useless research". Cut in one area then money comes over from another.

 

Again... no defending this ad; it's in really bad taste, but if cuts were made, they definitely came from one side of the aisle and not the other.

 

The cuts were made to future budget cuts, not actual cuts to then current spending. It is my understanding the money cut was restored.

I'll be sure to pass along your thoughts to the people I know who no longer qualify (like my mother) or have had all but a few dollars cut from their allotment each month...like my uncle and his family.

 

I hope that you are helping your family, as I did when my daughter's family hit a rough spot. That is where the first form of aid should come from.

Please. I'm not providing anything. The vitriol against liberals and democrats that I've seen and encountered makes me not care at all where the link came from or who said what. Like it's any less inflammatory because it's not a national ad sponsored by the GOP. I bet more people saw Top 10 Reasons to vote Democrat by David Letterman than this stupid ad you're whining about. I don't want to hear any conservatives or anyone from the right whining about what the mean old democrats said about the republicans. For all we know it might be true.

Not happy with immigration policy? Scream that people with ebola can walk across the border from Mexico.

Not happy with budget cuts? Blame a party for cuts and link it to preventing cures for ebola.

Not happy with visa policies? Yell that people with visas from Africa will bring ebola?

Not happy with Benghazi? Yell that it's like ebola - the administration will cover it up like Benghazi.

I would agree on both points. I am not sure if you are making a point or just pointing out the logic, but how much money would be enough? We spend trillions of dollars of deficit spending... maybe if we quit wasting money we could get important things done with less. That's how most functional organizations have to operate. How many of us can tell our bosses that we would get our job done if we were paid more? I believe our government should call this guy out...what activities that definitively lead to a cure were curtailed by budget cuts, and so if you are given this money, what day will it be available? Those are the questions the rest of us that run a business would get.

I am married so women's issues are of course important to me, but I would follow up with the point that grant money can be passed around like punch at a party. It is big business to drum up funds, but it is not clear that there is accountability fo results.
