It was an easy ad to make after the director of the NIH went on TV yesterday and declared that we would have already manufactured a vaccine if not for research cuts. It's an insane thing to say and there's NO WAY to know that, but it made that ad really easy for them to run.

Plenty to say to just these 2 quick replies . PP92 , If you wish to provide a link showing a national ad sponsored by the GOP that accuses democrats of killing people I'd like to see it . Getslow -- dont semi-apologize for the left for this ad . Just because an ad is " easy to make" doesnt mean it has any accuracy or validity . Please. I'm not providing anything. The vitriol against liberals and democrats that I've seen and encountered makes me not care at all where the link came from or who said what. Like it's any less inflammatory because it's not a national ad sponsored by the GOP. I bet more people saw Top 10 Reasons to vote Democrat by David Letterman than this stupid ad you're whining about. But as for who's calling the shots in Washington, I recall every government department and agency feeling the pain when House Republicans mandated across the board cuts in every department in order to end the shutdown. Democrats aren't asking to cut NIH funding, Republicans are. They've been after the NIH for years among other departments they think are doing "useless research". Cut in one area then money comes over from another.

 

Again... no defending this ad; it's in really bad taste, but if cuts were made, they definitely came from one side of the aisle and not the other.

Merely responding to the notion that the Democrats were somehow calling the shots on those cuts, which is simply untrue. I believe in undirected and pure research and I believe it leads to good things.

 

If it didn't, pharmaceutical companies wouldn't be spending all that money to buy up drug patents on formulas created by doctors and scientists whose grants came from the NIH.

 

There's no NIH utopia out there and as I said at the outset, the notion that we'd have a vaccine by now without the cuts is absolute hogwash that's completely unknowable.

The cuts for 1 year only - 2013 -- signed into law by Obama ( at gunpoint LOL) were a whopping huge 5% .

I thought the sequester was Obama's idea?

If we could be serious for a moment can you imagine the ads if money were actually cut from entitlement programs ? Without cuts in over bloated govt we might be headed towards 20 T in debt ? SMALL cuts across the board are fine by me ( less defense and roads and bridges )
