Ferguson is the real deal. The ability to comfortably "create" on his own, with strength and athleticism would make him an asset to any 11th region team. I doubt you'll find a coach in that region that would set him on the bench for the majority of time. He is multidimensional and just because he lives in hills at a small school doesn't make him any less of a player than somebody with a different geographic background.

Lets talk to the players that have played against these guys. Ferguson is a much better player than Vanhoose or McDavid will ever think about being. McDavid shouldn't even be mentioned. He is only talked about because he is from ASHLAND. Vanhoose is a good ball player but not better than Ferguson.

Ferguson is a very good player no telling how good he will be in 3 more years. Drew is a very good basketball player maybe not the best in the region but not one you would not have on your team. It almost sounds like you don't like Drew.

In almost every situation, the kids are great, fabulous people. They don't get the credit like they should. Its every one that plays for Ashland gets more reconigtion, so therefore the public thinks they are better players than what they are. Players through out the region are far more better players and don't get the credit that they deserve. Drew is probably a great kid, but as a basketball player he is not as good as papers, public, etc. say he is.

Add a bit: If other players that play now or graduated in years past played for Ashland some of them would have a chance to play college ball, because of the recognition helps so much in recruiting and getting displayed or even a D1 scholarship.

pgfromky- once again I am from outside the area, but is there a certain school you are affiliated with? Up to this point all of your posts have been about bashing Ashland. Many people on here, rather than put people down, prefer to bring others up, by talking about all of the positives of high school athletes and sports rather than the "conspiracies" such as the "media favoring Ashland".

 

From seeing Drew the few times that I have, I think that he does a lot of things that don't show up in the box score that is compensated with much deserved credit from the media.

If the players from those schools played for Ashland they would of got a lot more recognition and get a chance to play in college. Daily Independent should advertise all players in the 16th region to help all players out to get them to the next level, education, etc. I feel there is a more than slight favoritism toward Ashland players

The DI definitely isn't as bad towards Ashland as it used to be. I cant remember a time when they got extra publicity over Russell especially. Maybe the DI doesn't give all the schools an equal amount of credit but i cannot say it's more partial to Ashland than some schools.

I agree with your sentiment - that there are kids from across the region that get overlooked - but bashing kids from Ashland isn't going to help kids from Morgan, Rowan, Elliott (or any other school), get noticed.

 

In all honesty, in this day and age, if a kid can play, he's going to get noticed. For myself, I hope every kid in the 16th gets all the credit they deserve, if not more.

 

As for bashing the Daily Independent, I seriously doubt that college coaches (or scouting services) are reading the Daily Independent to get an idea of who the good players are. One trip to an AAU tournament in the older divisions will show you where the college coaches find those "diamonds in the rough".
