futurecoach Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I am sure this is not going to sit well with people lol, even though they do have a point. Comments on social media during yet another Bengals loss in prime time suggested many fans were skeptical, even after Cincinnati's 3-0 start to the season. "Let them jump off," Iloka said Monday. "I'm not worried about the people who jump off. We don't want them as fans anyway." Sunday's loss leaves the Bengals 2-5 in prime-time games since 2011 and 3-13 in Sunday night games. They haven't won a Sunday night game since 2004. Initially, Whitworth didn't want to address a question about his response to Bengals fans abandoning the team. "They didn't come to the games when we were 3-0, so I don't know what to say to them," he began, citing the Bengals not selling out their Weeks 2 and 3 games. "That stuff's just garbage," Whitworth continued. "I'm not worried about the fans or the media or any of that crap. We need to go play well and win. The same people thought Tom Brady should quit football and retire from the NFL a week ago, so I bet they don't think that now. There's a lot of people [who] are reaping what they sowed in their comments last week about the New England Patriots, and now the team that was what everyone considered the hottest team [the Bengals], they beat the snot out of. So what does everybody have to say now? Cincinnati Bengals players George Iloka, Andrew Whitworth, tell bandwagon fans to stay away - ESPN
theguru Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Whit is pretty much right. Iloka needs to chill.
IceIceBaby Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I think Whitworth is spot on. Last week people trashed Brady and thought his career was over. Then they come out and whip up on The Bengals. One loss does not a horrible season or team make. The Bengals have a great team and fans should be more supportive than they have been. It is a troubling trend that they seem to underperform in the spotlight and big moments, but the things I see some "fans" say is SO disappointing. If you're that upset by them, then why even watch? Quit being miserable.
futurecoach Posted October 7, 2014 Author Posted October 7, 2014 I know people will say win a playoff game and all that stuff, because us fans have been through more bad years than good rooting for this team. So I understand why some have a hard time truly getting behind them again. However the players do have a point. Which its probably a good thing the Bengals don't rely on getting free agents, because this would be a hard team to get free agents to come to because this place wouldn't be an exciting place that players would want to play. A consistent playoff team that still can't get the fans consistently behind them. In the past people like Whit would say we just need to play better and get wins and fans would come. So the players for the most part are doing their job.

Quit being miserable. It just truly is amazing how quick people jump right back off. Yes we haven't a Super Bowl game, but besides the two Super Bowl years. This is the most successful run over a few years they have ever had. We end up disappointed still, but at least each year we do have a playoff team to watch and at least get to hope that they find away to get over the hump. They got their butts kicked in the other day, however this team still should be fine and good chance to make a run still IMO.

futurecoach Posted October 7, 2014 Author Posted October 7, 2014 Are you saying the Bengals are a consistent playoff team? I would say three straight years and 4 out of the last 5 years would make them that. Especially when I think only 3 other teams have been to the playoffs 4 out of the last 5 years. This current core group of Bengal players only know making the playoffs.
IceIceBaby Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Are you saying the Bengals are a consistent playoff team? I think in recent memory, it's hard to say they aren't. No one said "consistently SUCCESSFUL playoff team" .
Bengal Maniac Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Surprised they addressed it. They probably know how fickle fans are. We have a top team in the NFL and can't sell the place out. That probably frustrates them and they had also probably read how great they are/were which added to it. I know there are reasons that have been discussed here why fans don't attend and many times it has nothing to do with their play. They dominate the local TV market when they play. The Bengals played horrible Sunday night and because I might think they were awful doesn't mean I won't cheer them loudly on Sunday. Hey, I like others on here went to every home game from 1996-2002 when they may have been the most abysmal franchise in all of major sports at that time. One debacle on Sunday night will not change my fandom at all.

Even if they are right, it is ill advised to do this.

Even if they are right, it is ill advised to do this. Beat me to it. Agree completely. Agreed that they shouldn't have said anything. However it does let us fans know that the players do notice this, and IMO probably doesn't exactly help paint Cincinnati as a fun exciting place that people want to play for. Hopefully it is not something AJ Green looks at to much or worries to much because the man is going to get paid no matter where he goes.
LRCW Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 I think in recent memory, it's hard to say they aren't. No one said "consistently SUCCESSFUL playoff team" . My recent memory says 6 appearances in the last 23 years.
Hellbird Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 WAhhhhhh!!!!! Does anyone have any tissues for these overpaid babies? Try playing better and people wouldn't be giving you crap. Can't stand when players cry about the very people that make them millionaires.
