September 30, 201411 yr I have similar reservations & there are few who will think it can work. But Cal will utilize it just to try & prove people wrong. It's how he's wired. He will try it and revert to his old ways. You play your best guys. UK has a lot of them, but you are not going to convince me Cal is going to play someone like Devon Booker over a more experienced Aaron Harrison for the sake of platooning. I think the notion of platooning makes a team less diverse.
September 30, 201411 yr I'm not really a big fan of platooning but in Cal I Trust. I think my first platoon would be: Harrison Harrison Poythress Towns Cauley-Stein Booker & Dakari are the two subs he was referring too.

Believe that was one of the problems was Dakari wanting to start...or at least some close to him. WCS didn't mind coming off the bench and it did work out.

What 5 are your end of the game Ball Handlers and Free Throw Shooters? Which group do you put in the crank up the Pressure D? Which 5 are you putting in if you need to play zone to shut down a driving team? What is crazy is that Cal has enough players to have these set platoons ready and not have to play anyone on more than one or two of them.

October 2, 201411 yr I love Cal and think he's great at looking out for the kids and that he's really maximizing the symbiosis between the school, coach, and players, but at the same time, I'm not putting a ton of stock into his comments to the media, especially during the summer. Lots can change between now and then, and I'm sure he'll do what's best for the team, but at the same time, when he comments in the summer, I don't know if it's to motivate a kid he has, recruit one he doesn't have yet, take a poke at the NCAA, take a jab at a local hack, pander to the networks, work the officials in the conference, etc.

This is just my armchair view, but I think his confidence was shaken so much he was willing to accept the relegation to take off pressure. You think Randle would have been cool with being benched? This wasn't a MKG situation of taking one for the team to boost the confidence of Darius Miller.
