October 3, 201411 yr I love Cal and think he's great at looking out for the kids and that he's really maximizing the symbiosis between the school, coach, and players, but at the same time, I'm not putting a ton of stock into his comments to the media, especially during the summer. Lots can change between now and then, and I'm sure he'll do what's best for the team, but at the same time, when he comments in the summer, I don't know if it's to motivate a kid he has, recruit one he doesn't have yet, take a poke at the NCAA, take a jab at a local hack, pander to the networks, work the officials in the conference, etc. Summer is over. Practice can officially start tomorrow... :banana:

With that said, I can be realistic and know he's a salesman and that he's said things like "wanting to recruit the first Chinese player to UK", or various other proclamations like that and some have just been abandoned and forgotten about. Not trying to bash Cal, just saying that he will use the media to send a message, whether it's to a player, recruit, network, whatever, so I'll take the 5-for-5 platoon with a grain of salt. Had completely forgotten that tom mow was the first day of practice, btw, so thanks for reminding me of something to look forward to.

Tons of talent to be sure, and we were lucky we had some guys come back that might have had good chances to go pro, and good that we have a loaded recruiting class coming in this year, but the fact is, games aren't played on paper. I'm as much of a UK fan as any, but I want to temper expectations for everyone too. Let's be real: UK will lose to some teams that they "out-athlete". Freshmen are freshmen. Our team still has holes that the right team can take advantage of on a given night.

October 6, 201411 yr Noticed a lot of greatest team ever talk in this thread. (I know most of it is in good fun, well, maybe) But how do we feel about 2012 UK v. the current squad. Of course time being the missing ingredient, but that team (2012) is the closest thing to perfect we have experienced. That said, Idk if this team would match up with 2012 all too well. Just curious. Thoughts?
