My understanding was that one of the various reasons it has struggled for profitability has been because UofL's sports teams essentially have first choice of everything as far as scheduling is concerned, and that has left them struggling to make dates work with touring music acts, etc. With the unending schedule of games the NBA has these days, it would seem to me that it could be awfully difficult to schedule a full season of games there.
September 29, 201411 yr Is there something in place that if the YUM Center Defaults on it's loan obligations that U of L has the first right of refusal to buy it? Seems as if that was discussed on here previously. I believe that's true. In practice, if Metro started putting pressure on UofL then a deal to rewrite parts of the lease would happen. The university needs city government on too many other things to pick a fight over arena finances. Imagine how many inspections and permits have to be satisfied every year. Metro could make that a messy process if they wanted. Those discussions haven't happened. I doubt it's even been talked about. Until there's a buyer and a plan in place for a team, neither side wants to pick that fight.

See above. The deal could be reworked and metro government and UofL have to work together on too many things to fight over a couple million in arena money. Any potential NBA owner is going to be twice as pushy and greedy as Jurich and Ramsey so that would be the big sticking point. Heck, a potential buyer might want control of the arena wrested away from the arena authority and into the hands of the team completely, which I'd never go for.

September 29, 201411 yr Author Kansas City could be an option. Vegas. I could see Kansas City, but I don't know about Vegas. Lot of trouble to be had in Vegas, especially when your team is there half the season. Also they don't have the arena Louisville does although they can build one. Kansas City does have the Sprint Center.
September 29, 201411 yr Not all that far off from UofL season tickets given the price ballooning that's gone on. I don't have season tickets to UofL now and I wouldn't buy them for an NBA team, but I could see myself buying a multi-game package. If that ever happens, let's split one.

But it is not like Louisville would be preferred that much over other cities and the population base would have to be a concern being so close to Indy and with Indy being just as close to Cincy as Louisville.

The firm he hire for the feasibility study strongly told him that it would work best in NKY, with Florence being the area they saw it working the best. Their thinking was that an NKY arena would bring in people from down in KY, as well as people from Cincy, Dayton and Columbus. This was about 1990 or so. He wasn't happy about the NKY idea.

October 5, 201411 yr NBA Tickets are WAAAAAAAY more affordable than people think. I've bought tickets to a Spurs/Grizzlies game for $12 each. In an arena that seats around 15,000 or so and doesn't feel a ton bigger than Memorial, that's not a bad deal at all to watch two playoff teams.

Had great seats center court 22 rows back for Pacers/Heat last year in ECF. $225 each on the secondary market, for Lebron James and conference Finals.
October 5, 201411 yr Author Two seasons ago watched Thunder/Pacers during the season for $75 a ticket on the secondary market and was 20 rows off the floor. Been to playoffs to watch Heat/Pacers last three seasons (ECF twice) and I get lower level tickets for what Id get upper level tickets at Rupp.
