Looks like Cole has worked himself into a scholarship.

As he stared up at the smoke billowing from Commonwealth Stadium, Jeff Mosier remembered thinking there was no way his son was going to play for Kentucky.

His son had just finished up camp and was considering walking on at UK.

Jeff Mosier recalled telling his son: "Cole, I don't think this place is for us. The facilities look a little, eh, compared to other places we've been. I don't know if this is the right fit.

"There's not a good vibe here."

UK football: Left tackle Mosier's career ends with torn ACL | Lexington Herald Leader

Mosier’s Kentucky career over after torn ACL on Saturday

AUGUST 14, 2017 3:40 PM

A Kentucky senior who battled his ways through a series of injuries since high school has had yet another injury end his playing career.

Cole Mosier, the Cats’ starting left tackle for most of last season, suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in the scrimmage on Saturday at Kroger Field. UK Coach Mark Stoops hinted afterward that it might be a significant setback for the standout from Walton-Verona.

“We’re extremely disappointed about Cole’s injury,” Stoops said in a release. “He helped set an example of hard work. We wish him the best.”

The former walk-on, who earned a starting spot on the Kentucky line as a redshirt freshman, has played in 32 games, including 13 starts for the Cats. He will have surgery this week, graduate in December and prepare for Kentucky’s Pro Day in the spring.

Landon Young, who saw significant action last season at left tackle, will take over the starting spot full time. The 6-foot-7, 305-pound standout from Lafayette had 27 knockdown blocks last season and was in on several key drives at the end of the year. Young was forced into playing time starting at Florida last season when Mosier left the game with an ankle injury.

UK did not have a media availability on Monday, but coaches are expected to address the other options at left tackle on Tuesday.

A shoulder injury sidelined Mosier his freshman season at Walton-Verona. Later, when most players are going to summer camps trying to catch the eye of a Power Five program, Mosier was doing rehab for a surgically repaired knee that he injured playing basketball.

Devastating injury for UK due to the importance of the position. Young is really talented but will be learning on the job.

Obviously losing Mosier hurts, but Landon Young was very highly touted coming out of high school & played a lot last year as a true frosh. I think he'll be fine.

Sad news. Best wishes on a full recovery.

Getting ready for a pro day coming off knee surgery like this does not sound like good timing. Any chance Mosier applies for a medical redshirt and tries to play next fall at UK?

Sad news for the big man and UK. Known Cole since the 3rd grade playing in the BCPWFL where he had a couple of injuries there as a young man. Wishing him a speedy recovery and continued success whatever his future plans are.
