BGP 1A Rankings for 9-22

Featured Replies

Interesting comments and points made by all. I respect Belfry a lot but it looks like not enough. These polls are an evolution and every week puts in a new wrinkle. Pikeville and Frankfort play 2A opponents that I would call about even. Those games will surely impact next week's rankings.

No one has said anything about Russellville and they are also 5-0. They play a higher class ranked opponent this week. Should they be ranked higher?

Also, I plugged Pikeville vs Mayfield into calpreps .....

Pikeville 35 Mayfield 27

Calpreps has Pikeville ranked #1.

One more thing. Calpreps has a performance ranking on each game. Beechwood's performance ranking for their win over Franklin Co. is higher than Pikeville's performance ranking against Belfry ... Beechwood 54.1 and Pikeville 50.8.

Dixie and Mt. Healthy would beat Belfry handily in my opinion. Not even close!

Ok, I'm gonna get hammered for this, by one mayfield fan for sure.

1 pikeville

2 mayfield

3 beechwood

4 Williamsburg

5 hazard

As far as mayfield goes, their defense is very solid against the run, subject against the pass. The offense is not playing real well right now and some of that is due to the play calling. Don't tell me that the cards don't miss the offensive coordinator that left the team after last years season. My biggest fear is that mayfield is going to slip back into the ( morris style) of football, three yards and a cloud of dust) and we don't have the personnel for that kind of offense. We have been very predictable the last two games.

I see where you're coming from on this...............kinda. One thing you have to remember, we're still working with a young QB who is still learning. I'm sure the game is still pretty fast for him right now. I would say that is the main reason for the predictable offense. It appears that we have a team this year that might play to the level of its opponents (with the exception of the Fultons). Really curious to see what happens in the Russelville game.

False.

Belfry is better than anyone Beechwood has faced.

Mt. Healthy and Dixie are better than Belfry

Williamsburg can and will beat Pikeville and should be highest ranked team in the East until someone from the east beats them. Williamsburg brought all but one player back from a team that was at least 2 touchdowns better than every other eastern team last year.

The east was weak last year.

Mayfield has had a tough two weeks. Murder of a classmate...uncertainty of a top defensive player playing the rest of the year. A trap game with Murray and then the crosstown game with Graves. Cut these guys some slack. They are 4-1...one loss by 1 point to a 6A team in OT. We would beat Pikeville today.

Its me, its me, Ernest T, The sky is falling , the sky is falling.

Mayfield has played the best schedule of any one in 1A and they have done very well. This team might not win the 1A title but they will be a very very tough out.

Been waiting on you snake! Lol, I believe if you were honest you would agree with me. Mayfield has played two good teams, McCracken co and murray. And I believe any of the top 5 in 1-A would beat murray. I agree with you we will be a tuff out, because of our defense. I will go out on a limb and predict we will make it to the semi game where we will meet beechwood, outcome uncertain, but if we played this Friday,,, I'd put my money on beechwood.

The east was weak last year.

Not denying that but sounds to reason the team that brought everyone back then added Harlan County's best back will be as good as anyone else that lost people.

That is a weak limb I must say

As far as rankings go, I will repeat what I have said before ... Mayfield is #1 until MAYFIELD does something that says they are not. There isn't any win any team behind them can get that can move them ahead of Mayfield. If Beechwood beats Cov Cath in two weeks (not likely at all), Mayfield is still #1.

As to strength of schedule, Beechwood's schedule so far is ranked as more difficult than Mayfield's.

I was totally unimpressed with Williamsburg last year. Mayfield's defense is just as good as last years . I see Mayfield, Beechwood or Pikeville winning the title this season.

Probably as good of a deduction as any other. Should they and mayfield get to the final game again, two things for sure ( mayfield was way better than Williamsburg last year, but mayfield is no where near the offensive team they were a year ago.)
