September 22, 201412 yr What was the final word on Burfict? I assume he will be back after the bye? All signs point to that. It looks like only Zeitler, Thompson, and Eifert (IR Return List) won't be ready.
September 22, 201412 yr Another solid win. How long is Marvin Jones out? He looked good at the Cooper/Sk game. I swear he looks no older than 15 years old.
September 22, 201412 yr I got to watch the DVR of the game when I got home yesterday, or at least the first half. Watching in the bar was a little difficult being on the small screen while all the other games were on the big screen. Am I the only one who was concerned with the defense in the first half giving up huge chunks of yards at a time? That needs to be fixed and I'm sure a lot on the ground had to be from Burfict being out but still a worry for me.

September 22, 201412 yr Author My buddy says it all the time, but I feel like they have a very bend but don't break about them. That's how I feel as well. I think I even mentioned it a few times in the update thread. When it came time, they buckled down and stopped the Titans for FG attempts, which they were kind enough to miss.

They had given up 105 yards total to Atlanta last week late in the 3rd quarter or early 4th and only gave up garbage yards after the game was already decided.

A couple of things that did concern me was the way the titans ran the ball down their throats in the 3rd quarter and if not for a big holding penalty on them might have scored. Running QB's give them trouble. Not that Locker is great at it, but he can make plays with his feet. They have consistent pressure but let QB's slip through the middle on them. They are a much better pressure defense with a QB that stays on the spot. These are not huge problems but can make a difference in close games.

I wouldn't say they only gave up garbage yards after the game was already decided. Did you see the 1st qtr? The Titans marched right down the field as if it was pretty easy. Missed FG's and Turnovers in the red zone by the Titans kept this game from being close. To give you an idea of what I'm talking about I will break it down by Titan drives in the 1st half. 1st drive 64 yards (missed FG) 2nd drive 26 yards (punt) 3rd drive 76 yards (missed FG) 4th drive 2 yards (Safety) 5th drive (Interception) 6th drive 37 yards (Fumble Titans recover and punt) 7th drive (Interception) So in just the first 3 drives of the game the Titans marched right down field twice on drives of 64 and 76 yards. 166 yards on just their first 3 possessions of the game, how is that garbage time? I love our defense, but to say the only time the Titans moved the ball was in garbage time is false, actually I thought they moved the ball better in the first half than the 2nd half, they were just able to put points on the board in the 2nd half. The Titans had over 200 yards in the first half alone. Just sayin.

It was really weird, I just kept looking at Locker, who really got 1/3 of the yardage on the 1st drive with one run, and thought he isn't very good. He has a cannon for an arm, but accuracy is really low or was yesterday. Maybe the wind had something to do with it, but I don't think so..
September 22, 201412 yr One thing about the Bengals defense is they are bringing the heat with blitzes. Flacco, Ryan, and Locker did not burn them with it much, except the one B'more play. I may be wrong, but Brady could make us pay for that and will if we don't get there. The only good thing with Brady is he ain't leaving the pocket.

However there total yards still only ended up being 326 yards for the game. Which the Bengals finished in the top 5 in defense last year averaging only giving up 303 yards a game. So even though for some reason it seemed like the Titans were gashing us at times, the Bengals still held them down overall around the same as a top defense does. Because teams who have up 330 yards or less last year finished in the top 10 in defense. So hopefully when Burfict is back that it will help prevent those big chunk plays that they did get.

Titans don't even come close to moving it that well if Burfict is on the field.
September 23, 201412 yr I am enjoying my post game ritual of listening to the bengals post game, having another game on tv on mute, reading different articles and opinions on the bengals game, having a beverage while making a steak dinner! Who dey! I see you continue to enjoy your post game ritual of ignoring Rule #13. Come on man. Quit being so freaking lazy.
September 23, 201412 yr Not at all concerned. Bengals were missing their defensive leader. Titans don't even come close to moving it that well if Burfict is on the field. Missed some tackles. But with the way teams practice now tackling is a league wide problem. Burfict was sorely missed and I don't believe Geno has his game legs under him yet. Defense is fine.

So if Burfict is the only reason the Bengals gave up big drives, what if he has another concussion and is gone for the rest of the season? Still no worries?
