It's funny, another SK supporter keeps telling me it's too early to know whether SK is as good as others, yet they are 5 games into the season. That means the season is half over!!!! When will we will we be able to answer the question "How do we know they are ready to compete with anyone 6a team outside of NKY?" What makes us think this year, they will get by the first decent team they see? I'm not saying they won't, I'm just saying if I was a betting man, what makes me put my money on SK to make it past the third round or first decent team...whichever comes first.

 

I can't say I disagree with you. I hate to admit I've only been able to attend one game (Cooper) and while impressed I'm not sure I believe they are better than last season. Kuntz was battered his sophomore season, improved by a mile as a Jr, then blew it out of the water as a Sr. As good as the Sk offense has been in recent seasons their defense has been rock solid for quite some time under coach Herbst's reign. First time seeing Racke and he really impressed me, kid has some serious weapons to feed.

They have repeatedly scheduled programs that they have had no chance of competing with and it has contributed to culture of dysfunction and self destruction.

So true! Great points. As I was told over and over again that Cooper would have won state in 2012 if they only would have scheduled Highlands that year (which is a total joke imo, there was no team in the state beating BG in 2012 except maybe Trinity that year) Why schedule great teams if you are not yet up to that level? Look at Ryle who year in and year out always have 1 or even 2 teams on their out of district schedule that are top teams and what does that get Ryle? It gets them another L on their record and usually a blow out to boot. It doesn't make them better, it doesn't even get them to be more competitive.

SK will win this game. SK will show their true potential when they play Campbell Co. Their first opponent with same size and close to talent level in my opinion.

I'm not sold on CC myself as being close to SK. There is only 1 6A team in NKY that may challenge SK and it's Dixie, and after seeing both teams this year I don't even think Dixie will be much of a problem for SK.

SK with a running clock. IMO Simon Kenton is the best school in N. KY.

More stuff to get off my chest to the critics of SK scheduling.

 

From the HHS perspective, success is measured in state championships. Considering where SK came from and where it is today, a regional championship is a reasonable expectation and would make the season a success. The level of scheduling is not being accelerated as fast as some would like, but it is being accelerated,

 

This is the list of accomplishments the deliberate approach has made :

 

1) Created a winning atmosphere that has contributed to increased athlete and booster participation.

 

2) The loss of athletes to Cov Cath and Beechwood has stopped completely as of 2012.

 

3) Out of district transfers and open enrollment athletes has increased from essentially nothing to 3-4 athletes a year.

 

4) Financial contributions allowing the program to provide a modern training facility and an indoor fieldhouse have increased.

 

It has taken SK 8 years to get from where Boone and Ryle are now to being able to compete even for a regional championship. I have said in other threads that SK needs to address the team speed improvements necessary to compete with T, Male and Scott Co. in its conditioning program. SK is not going to get the 3 and 4 star athletes these programs get on a regular basis, so the program needs to do better with the athletes it does get.

Forget CCH, HHS & SK, I'm waiting for someone to challenge your crown.

Well first, I will say, I thought we were talking about SK. If you want me to be completely honest, I am critical only because there are two to three SK fans that want to pound their chest about SK and put down all the other programs in the area, when they have done absolutely nothing over the last couple years to pound their chest about!!!!! I will root for them when they have a statement win. I'm all in, but until they play someone decent, I can't trust them. Has NOTHING to do with me being a HHS fan. I was telling someone the other day, I wish people didn't know I was an HHS fan when talking to the SK group because ALL of them want to take the conversation back to comparing to HHS. It has nothing to do with HHS. NOTHING!!! I'm saying, how can anyone say this team is better than any other SK team and how do they know "this is the year!". When I ask people that question and they say 5 games in to a 10 game schedule that "it's too early to tell or answer that question", I just have to believe it's because deep down you realize the past history and you also realize you can't answer that question with confidence because you know they haven't been battle tested. What are those kids going to do when they punch a decent team in the mouth and that team actually punches back! Example, Butler from last year! I'm not bringing that up to put it in anyone's face, but that is the recent history we have seen from SK. I am simply asking the SK folks, what leads all of us to believe this year is different. I truly think there are many folks that are ready to get on the SK bandwagon (including me), but why would we think this season will end any differently. I would seriously like to know the answer. Most are saying this team is better than last year. I find that hard to believe. You lost an outstanding playmaker and are starting a sophmore QB in his place. The kid is doing great, but still have a hard time believing that in crunch time, this team is better than last year. I guess we'll see.

 

 

As for HHS schedule, please don't try to compare it to SK. That's just silly! I will use the whole SK excuse first and say JH and PT are usually very good. Just caught on a down year now. And by the way, they are 3 and 5A schools. Not down 2a schools. Then another 6 A team (which by the way, SK hasn't even played one yet) that I think will make some noise this year. So outside of a perrenial 3A powerhouse and program (PT 4th in the state in wins), we haven't even played anyone that is in our division. All have been higher...Just like SK right? Then if comes to the rest of the schedule. Please don't even attempt to compare that! You would look silly on here.

 

PS. PT and JH would beat 3 of the 5 and maybe 4 of the 5 teams that SK has already played by at least 3 tds. Believe it!

This is what you don't get. We aren't saying put the big 3 on the schedule every year. We are saying, schedule like a 6A program that wants to get better. Period! Without all the excuses, there are PLENTY of ways to do that. I don't care that you were coming off a 2-9 season. Schedule like a 6A team. You can't tell me they didn't know what they had coming up and could say the 2-9 was just a rough year. If they had no idea what was in the pipeline, then shame on them. And even if they didn't, then they should still be scheduling a 6A schedule. I get sooooo tired of all the excuses. If you want to be a respected program and you want all the attention, figure out how to earn respect and warrant the attention. You have the attention of some of us, what are you going to do with it. We are waiting.

So quit using that as an example. Secondly, is that who you're modeling your program against. Is that who you want to be or do you want to make Ryle an after thought team because the games aren't competitive anymore. It's an issue when you continuously compare yourself to mediocre programs, but want to be an elite program. That's part of the problem.

 

Lastly, for every Ryle, I can show you a hundred teams that scheduling aggressively has made them tremendously better over time. So you can continue to use the exception (excuse) of Ryle, but look around at the success stories and there are many more than what went on with Ryle. Heck, one of them is a 2A team on your schedule!

Ok I will bite give me some names and don't even try NCC or Cov Cath, or HHS. None of these programs were ever in the disarray that SK was in and that includes on the field and off. Name me the team that had 5 winning seasons in over 50 years of football that just up and started scheduling way over their heads and became a state power.

I don't have specific examples of exactly that, but I will say this. First, I LOVE what they are doing. I really do! I know most don't believe that, but I do. Secondly, all those schools started somewhere. So they had to make a decision to do it at some point. Third, how long do you need to "just up and start scheduling way over their heads. It's been awhile now that SK has been on the rise. It's not like they just started this right? You may have a season or two that is down (trust me, it may be coming for a team I like), but you don't change what you're doing.

 

We are talking about a 6A team that has been working their way up and plays a 2-3A schedule. We have 1a and 2a schools arguably playing a better schedule than our powerhouse 6a team in the area. And no one is asking you to put HHS, Cov Cath, T, X, Male and two GCL schools on you schedule in the same year. Heck, it doesn't even have to be as tough as Ryles. If we just had one decent team on there to measure where you are, even in a loss, it would warrant more respect and more people would be believers. It's just very hard to be a believer when anytime they have faced a decent team, they have lost. I'm not trying to harp on that, but even if I was bleeding SK blue, I would still be very leery to be "all in" if I was a betting man. Every fan has to know exactly what I'm saying. And it's not always the T's and X's that get ya. You and all the SK fans have to know that the measuring stick for SK the last two years has not been good. I want to see them play at least one team that actually is considered a challenge. Not, your right, they can't help that the other 6A schools are still avg. But they can help who they play out of district. And again, the other 4-5 games don't have to compare to T's schedule, just one challenge on there is all.

 

Now it's all mute, because they apparently scheduling Cov Cath and HHS next year. That's a good start. But is that official? I don't know. I remember someone saying Cov Cath was on the schedule and another person saying they weren't on there for sure. And I'm not close enough to the HHS schedulers to know if it's a done deal on their end or not.
