I don't have specific examples of exactly that, but I will say this. First, I LOVE what they are doing. I really do! I know most don't believe that, but I do. Secondly, all those schools started somewhere. So they had to make a decision to do it at some point. Third, how long do you need to "just up and start scheduling way over their heads. It's been awhile now that SK has been on the rise. It's not like they just started this right? You may have a season or two that is down (trust me, it may be coming for a team I like), but you don't change what you're doing.

We are talking about a 6A team that has been working their way up and plays a 2-3A schedule. We have 1a and 2a schools arguably playing a better schedule than our powerhouse 6a team in the area. And no one is asking you to put HHS, Cov Cath, T, X, Male and two GCL schools on you schedule in the same year. Heck, it doesn't even have to be as tough as Ryles. If we just had one decent team on there to measure where you are, even in a loss, it would warrant more respect and more people would be believers. It's just very hard to be a believer when anytime they have faced a decent team, they have lost. I'm not trying to harp on that, but even if I was bleeding SK blue, I would still be very leery to be "all in" if I was a betting man. Every fan has to know exactly what I'm saying. And it's not always the T's and X's that get ya. You and all the SK fans have to know that the measuring stick for SK the last two years has not been good. I want to see them play at least one team that actually is considered a challenge. Not, your right, they can't help that the other 6A schools are still avg. But they can help who they play out of district. And again, the other 4-5 games don't have to compare to T's schedule, just one challenge on there is all.

Now it's all mute, because they apparently scheduling Cov Cath and HHS next year. That's a good start. But is that official? I don't know. I remember someone saying Cov Cath was on the schedule and another person saying they weren't on there for sure. And I'm not close enough to the HHS schedulers to know if it's a done deal on their end or not.

Since you didn't give me examples of someone who did it your way and you hate the Ryle comparison, I will give you another local team that got caught up in scheduling and killed the interest in their program. HC started from the ground up with softer opponents and gradually increased their schedule. They won a state championship, and then got greedy. They put SK back on their schedule along with Cooper Conner and beechwood. They now have zero out of district wins and their program is suffering. Just because SK is a 6A school does not mean that the students and community can't lose interest in a program, just look at their first 50 years of existence. The reason everyone uses Ryle as a comparison is because they were in a place very similar to SK just a few years ago. We all no there were other issues going on but how many of those were caused by the over zealous schedule? That is a question that none of us will truly be able to answer. I totally agree with a couple of very challenging games on your schedule but 2 years ago NCC, Conner, & Cooper would all have been thought of as challenging games. No one predicted the level of separation between SK and these teams and this years schedule suffers because of it. For the record HHS is definitely on the schedule but I believe Bryan Station not Cov Cath is the other team next year.

So many keep saying that SK has risen from the ashes, back when they were a dismal team. Why would you just want us to jump up and start playing the big boys. That wouldn't be good for a program that is still trying to turn things around. So I said to myself, these guys act like they just started winning football games and playing a tough schedule would send them into a tail spin. I didn't get it. So I did a little research. Thought maybe I am wrong and all this success is recent, even though Marksberry has been there since before 2000.

Here's what I found:

2013 - 12-1

2012 - 9-4

2011 - 2-9

2010 - 10-3

2009 - 11-2

2008 - 10-5

2007 - 6-5

2006 - 6-4

2005 - 6-5

2004 - 2-8

*last 10 years, 2 losing seasons

*out of the last 6 seasons, 4 double digit wins with another one be a 9 win season.

*looks like the turn around happened after the 2007 season. THAT'S 7 YEARS AGO!

When I look at that and I hear "what do you want us to do, just jump right into a brutal schedule" I cringe because you make it sound like they just started their run. And again, no one is asking you to schedule the entire GCL south! 8 winning seasons over the last 10 and almost 5 of the last 6 seasons have seen double digit wins, that doesn't sound like a program that is just getting on their feet to me. That's 10 years of success with a couple stumbles in there. So please tell me why it's not time to step up the schedule and why was there a need to schedule a non competitive schedule the last two years. Again, I really only bring up the schedule when certain folks pound their chest. But I really can't say "I'm in" when I look at the schedule and see the results and history.

LOL. RCC9 gives his own program a pass for having PT and JH on the schedule but crucifies SK for Connor, Cooper and NCC being on the schedule. He does not even give credit for having a school on the schedule that HHS could not beat when all the marbles were on the table. This guy is just an SK hater and no amount of logic is going to change that. He is more than willing to trivialize the accomplishments of entire program to get back at a single poster.

Deep down, this fellow sees SK in the rear view mirror , and rapidly closing the gap. The programs do meet on the field this year, so he has to take his arguments to a forum like this.

I hear what you're saying. But my point is, even Conner and Cooper and NCC should not be the measuring stick for a good 6a program on the rise with aspirations of being very good. I agree you can't predict what would happen to those programs. But even NCC shouldn't be on a good 6a team's schedule. Look at most of the 6A teams down state. You are very hard pressed to see even 4A schools on their schedules, much less anyone below that unless it's a local rival or something. And several only have 6a teams or solid 5a team. I have no issue having Cooper and Conner on the schedule. None at all. But if I were trying to get better and establish my program as a contender, I would definitely have 1-2 measuring sticks on the schedule. I don't consider avg to above avg 5a teams a true measuring stick for a good 6A program. Do you really think if you put Elder, HHS, Cov Cath, St X, Lasalle, Colerain on the schedule as one game a season, that they would really lose interest in SK football. I bet it actually goes the other way. And god forbid what it does to your program is you play with or happen to beat one of them occasionally! And do you agree that where SK is today, not 10 years ago, that it would help them tremendously prepare for the hurdle games they can't seem to get over in the playoffs?

By the way, I agree with the HC example and knew you were going to bring that up. You know a little about that school. But I can't give you examples of teams that the schedule pulled them out of ruins, but I can give you hundreds of examples of schools that have sustained success, partially because they continue to challenge themselves with scheduling. My point, SK is there and has been. No reason to look backwards!

I have known RCC9 for a long time and I know the Bluebird glasses he wears can blind him sometimes but I also know he truly believes what he is saying. While you and I somewhat disagree with the timing of beefing up the schedule, all 3 of us agree that next years schedule is a great fit for this team. I also know that his dream scenario would be for SK to win the 6A state and have their only loss of the year be to HHS. I can hear it now best in the state regardless of class bring on Alabama. He is feeling all euphoric right now just thinking about it. I also know for a fact that he sees SK rising fast and being fully capable of competing with and BEATING his bluebirds. He don't like it and he ain't going to admit it but that doesn't change the fact that he feels it. That is exactly why he and I are working on a nice friendly gentleman's agreement.

You are hilarious. First, forget that I'm a hhs fan. Could care less about that. SK and HHS will never be in the same division, so it means absolutely nothing to me or HHS. Its actually funny you compare SK to HHS. Why do you guys always want to compare to HHS?? The only time I talk about HHS in these threads is when you or one of the others bring it up! It's hilarious you think I have a HHS agenda behind it. You should take the HHS goggles off and listen to what I'm saying.

And I have never said that having two of the better programs in the state on the HHS schedule was good or bad. That's you! I don't know that I have ever down played HHS playing JH and PT. And even if you think they are bad teams because of their schedule, that's only two bad team on the schedule, other than a district games. You want to compare the rest of the schedule? And Why do you think we have to travel all over the state to find teams to play us...Because there is only 1 6a school that has had the nads to play us in the last 10 years! We have issues filling our schedule, so we look at consistent state wide programs and schedule them. So its really funny you mention those two statewide respected programs and want to compare anything!!! They are a 3A school and a 5a school that would beat 4-5 teams you have played by 3 touchdowns. And what about Bryan Station? What would they do to your opponents so far? What would they do to SK???? Hmmmmm....anyone know if those districts are on the same side this year???

And you've never answered any question...What makes you believe this SK team is any better than any of the past SK teams and that this is the team that will get over the hump? Why is this the team? I have asked that about 10 times and no one responds. Give me something to believe in. Give me a good reason why they are better and will go further than the others and I will come and cheer them on. If I hated them, I wouldn't do that. I do root for them, but give me a reason to blow this board up with SK propaganda and I will! No one has been able to do that because noone really knows is this team is for real or not. How could they? Hopefully they are! Like I said in the past, NKY fans are bursting at the seems to root on a 6A team that can make some noise. Everyone says SK can do it, but we haven't seen that yet.

By the way, I don't hate the poster you refer to. I have met him, enjoyed my conversation with him and yes give him crap on here, but the majority of my posts about SK have NOTHING to do with him.

I agree with all of this, we just disagree on timing. When the current schedule was made you couldn't find a handful of people that thought they were serious contenders for a 6A title. Now there is a wagonload of pioneers that believe and next years schedule represents that. There was a ton of skeptism when the last schedule was made. SK falls back to the pack now that Miles Simpson and Chad Lawrence have graduated. Heck I even remember one of your HHS brethren picking them to go 6-4 in the regular season last year. It doesn't matter because this year plays out and then we get to see things played out on the field.

Good points! I have to go for now. Have to go coach my Birds team for a while.

Quit being lazy and come judge for yourself. They play Campbell County in a few weeks, come on out and watch. If you want to meet beforehand I will even have an adult beverage or two for you. I can just add those to the dozens you already owe me.

SK 54 Ryle 12

As so many HHS fans are willing to point out, HHS is the one with 50 state titles on its banner, not SK. SK has Cov Cath and Highlands on its schedule next year but right now has no business scheduling T, Male or even Scott County.

And since we are on a thread that includes Ryle I'll point out that that program is the poster child of the caustic consequences of over aggressive scheduling. They have repeatedly scheduled programs that they have had no chance of competing with and it has contributed to culture of dysfunction and self destruction.

Its actually only 22, but thanks for getting close and thinking of us...:thumb:

When it's all said and done, scheduling actually has very little to do with a teams success from year to year.

What has more to do with a teams success is how good that team actually is.

That my friends is the truth.

Ryle schedules a couple really good teams each year but that doesn't make them better and anyone who thinks it does is just fooling themselves.

If a team has great players one year they will win no matter who they play. It drive me nuts in 2012 and I will bring it up again because there were a few HHS fans who made some idiotic statements and they actually believed their garbage when they said Cooper would have won state that year if they played Higlands. What an ignorant thing to say. If that was the case then shouldn't every team that plays Highlands win state that year? The arrogance getse all the time with statemts like that.

SK is fine and the schedule this year will have little affect on how they finish. If they are good they will win more than they lose.

Who did SC play last year? Who did Collins play last year? You get the point? Anyone who thinks a tough scheduleakes a team better is just silly. There are more examples of Ryles out there that play tough schedules and still lose big than there are other ways around. What did the tough schedule T played last year do for them?

If you have a bad team you will have a bad season period, and if you have a good team

You will Have a good season period.

I hear ya, but we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. We have before!!! :ylsuper:

:)

So you are saying scheduling has more to do with the success of a team than talent?

Could you explain them why Ryle has no state titles or that other teams that don't have really tough schedules do have state titles?
