Hmmmm...I was at the Camp Co game last year and witnessed the game clearly in hand for SK and watched Kuntz still in the game and throwing 60yd passes downfield and actually throwing a TD pass after one of those long connections with about a minute left in the game. After witnessing that game, it was no wonder SK stats are so good. Not sure if that has changed this year, but I hope so.

 

Our staff would NEVER run up the score intentionally. Too much respect for their opponents...no matter who it is.

Honest and unbiased, HHS wins by 3 tds. I believe that is no doubt last year. The teams that stayed close and made comebacks did it running the ball with elite athletes and speed. HHS IMO has been vulnerable to teams that can stuff it down their throat. The problem is, many have tried and failed because they end up adapting, running out of gas, or are one dimensional. And the teams that can do that have been the big schools like Elder. The reason I say they win by that much, is because no one stopped HHS on offense last year. They were a machine and I honestly don't think SK could have done any better. I know SK tallks about speed being their downfall. What I don't think many in NKY understand because they haven't seen HHS much because they don't play their team, is their teams speed. They may play teams that have kids faster than our fastest kid, but as a team, there aren't many faster. That really is a shocker for most teams. SK says "our lineman are huge". Well I've seen HHS at times line 185-198 pound kids over huge lineman from the bigs schools and the HHS lineman make them look silly because they are up and around them before the big boys get out of their stance. And if they do get caught, their technique is so good, they don't get blown off the ball like you would think a small lineman would. And they SWARM to the ball and they hit for a bunch of little guys.

 

As far as teams coming back on them, there were only two. That was Warren Central and Lex Cath. The WC game was the craziest game I've ever seen. They were a missed extra point from being on a running clock in the first half I think. HHS came out in the second half, let their guard down and WC gained a tremendous amount of confidence. When HHS brought the starters back in, the confidence level had already gone through the roof and they because hard to stop. HHS did score 71 points with their backup quarterback playing. Our starter didn't even start that game. So yes they came back and make it the best game i've ever seen, but there were some factors in the game too. WC cought fire on offense.

 

The other comeback we Lex Cath. HHS was smoking them in the first half and came out in the second half like they hadn't played football. Lex Cath still lost by two touchdowns.

 

HHS was very good and it was one of the biggest teams they ever had. They weren't easily pushed around, they were very fast and very good on offense. I really don't believe SK could have hung with them and that's as honest as I can be.

 

In my opinion, last year Collins was on a mission to get back to the Birds and redo the embarrassment that they got the year before. I truly believe that was a case of a team on an absolute mission that met a team that thought they were supposed to win. Collins took it to them and HHS continuously in the game. They had the right game plan with the right athletes in the right spots. But I can tell you all the way up to the last play, I never thought HHS was going to lose...and they did. Collins figured out a way to stay with them and battle. I truly think a lot of that was the burning desire for them to reach down and restore their name. When the Birds smacked them in the face, Collins smacked back. Period. I know SK wants to hang their hat on beating Collins in the first game and "Collins beat HHS in the finals, we are better than HHS." Here's what I'm not sure if all the SK fans know, after the game when the coach was interviewed, he mentioned the SK game. He said "We played SK in the first game of the season and it was a great learning experience for us. We were not a good team at that time. We used that game to make some tough decisions that we worked on all year and it has finally paid off." The coach admitted that they weren't a very good team at the beginning of that year and moving athletes around and having 3-4 of their studs play both ways (which didn't happen in the SK game) improved both sides of the ball tremendously. Not only did they play those studs, but they also used others on both sides in key situations, just not every down. This philosophy is something I think HHS can explore in the next two years as the depth is down.

Funny you mention speed. Because I have played and watched high school football for over 55 years, and I personally have watched HHS three times this year, and I think this is one of the SLOWEST HHS teams i have seen. The QB can run a little, number 6 can run some, Otherwise, I'm not impressed with their team speed at all.

Funny you mention speed. Because I have played and watched high school football for over 55 years, and I personally have watched HHS three times this year, and I think this is one of the SLOWEST HHS teams i have seen. The QB can run a little, number 6 can run some, Otherwise, I'm not impressed with their team speed at all.

 

I would agree this year is one of the slower ones in recent history as a team. But two points. Being a little slower for an HHS team is still being pretty fast, just not as fast as usual and secondly, the question was about last year's team, right?

You got me! Funny, the only time I even speak about HHS in a thread outside of an HHS thread is when you guys compare them and bring them up! Look it up! I talk about SK and more than half the posts on your threads are me and others, so not sure where all the excitement is coming from. If if it weren't for me, you, bball and Colonel Don "discussing" SK football, there might be about 10 posts on here about this game. That's excitement!!!

So going back 3-5 years to discuss HS football is different than going back to the 80's and 90's. Why is that? There's not a kid on the SK team the played in any of the games in your examples or his. After about 2-3 years, it's all history, regardless how far you want to go back. I'll use your word..."Do you think the kids on this Bryan Station team remember when when SK beat Bryan Station 3-5 years ago? When they were a 6-5 3 seed and you beat them by a Touchdown? I would LOVE for SK to see Station in the playoffs! I would skip the HHS game and be at that one for sure!

Whoops! Forgot about this one. You are right, they (and me) do respect what SK is doing. You are 100% correct. But that doesn't mean they aren't rooting against them. You can't tell by the way even some of the posters on here are when they start some of the sayings by "As much as this pains me, I think SK will....." I know that has to do with one (and a few others) posters, but that's what it's turned into. I have said multiple times, make us believers! I am all in when I believe. I am serious as a heart attack. A few years back it looked like this game was going to become an annual "event" game in NKY. It's unfortunate that Ryle did not maintain their success while SK was taking theirs to a higher level.

Here's what has happened. SK has one very overzealous poster that attacks several programs on here. When those programs address him, other SK posters get their feelings hurt and jump in. They may not believe everything the one poster says, but they still start to compare and attack the program that is being defended and tell us how great SK is. When they get challenged to "tell us why their program is so good" (a fair question), they go back to comparing and attack mode and it escalates from there. They don't like anyone to question or challenge anything about the SK program. They feel its all about HHS or Cov Cath being worried about them in the rear view mirror when in reality, it's just discussing their program. But because they know someone is a follower of a certain school, they think there is more behind it...and there's not. It's actually kinda funny!

 

For you, there is no doubt the SK players work their tails off and are making great strides. All of NKY is watching and hoping they can carry the flag for 6A in NKY. I have said that a ton of times. But there are few fans that make it hard to root for them. And almost all of this is boys being boys and having fun going at each other. I wouldn't classify any of it as "nasty". It's just digs at each other. I could sit down with any of these guys and have the same debate face to face over "coffee" and I would say the exact same things.

I can tell you, people around the state are talking about Simon Kenton. I would have to guess they are in NKY as well, I just think many don't like to admit it.
